Appearance
Warforged are constructed humanoids built from a mixture of metals, though primarily either bronze or steel. The ancient warforged look simply like heavily armoured hoplites or legionaries, with a glow from within the helmet where a face should be. In a few rare cases they have been made to look more human - their metal bodies carved to resemble muscles and flesh, their heads engraved with eyes and mouths.
For younger warforged, the ones who plumet from the heavens, appearances can be wildly different from one another, though most have recognisable faces and some even have the ability to open their mouths and move their mechanical eyebrows, making them appear much more expressive than the warforged of old.
Description
Built For War
The first warforged were created to serve as soldiers in
The Archonomachy.. They were elite fighters, immune to the effects of hunger and fatigue, starvation and pain. None know of how many forged there were in the past, nor how many fell during the war, only that there were some survivors once the great battles had ended.
Searching For Purpose
Warforged are unique when compared to golems and constructs, for they have a soul, or at minimum a true sense of self. Once the war ended, they were forced to consider what they wanted out of life, for their task was fulfilled and yet still they remained. Some became mercenaries for a time, selling their exceptional skills to the highest bidder, others took up roles as craftsmen and farmers. Many simply seemed to deactivate, and to this day remain either dead or asleep, perhaps awaiting the next great conflict.
A prevailing question that exists in the minds of most warforged centers around Purpose. They know they were created by the Gods for a reason, but that reason for being ended seven centuries ago and more. They have outlived their creator in a sense, so why are they still here? Why have they been left to wander, instead of being given new tasks?
From The Sky
For many centuries, there was a set limit of warforged in the world; only those who survived The Archonomachy remained, and as no-one knew how to replace them, whenever one died, the species would forever be one closer to tragic extinction.
This all changed some 50 years ago. Reports of metal men plummetting from the sky like falling stars began, and rumours of some great factory in the sky began to circulate. Who has been creating these new "Skyforged" is unknown, as are their methods and reasons for doing so. This leads many younger forged to having the same problems as their older kin; knowing they have been made for a reason, but having no idea what it is.
Religion & Politics
Creators & Leaders
Practically all of the older warforged have intense feelings about the Gods; either unyielding zealotry, for they have seen the face of
Katas and walked alongside
Zia in days of old, or despair and hatred, for they feel abandoned by those they once adored.
For those who do worship, they will tend to give prayers to the two deities mentioned above, for one is their eternal father, and the other is The Archonslayer, who lead them into battle countless times to save the world.
Younger warforged tend to base their faith on the people around them; those that fell near human settlements will worship like the humans around them, while those who fell near other cultures or peoples will worship like them. Most still feel a pull towards Katas, however, for their very lives are proof of his power.
Republic of Ósa
Warforged are a topic of some debate in many circles, and have been experimented on and studied more than most other races. The mage have been eager to learn how warforged work, what they are ever since the great war. Any old fool can create a golem, but few arcanists have learned how to create sentience and life itself. Most warforged volunteer for such experiments, just as eager as the mages to find out what they are in the hopes that it will give them purpose.
Aside from being subjects of studies and experimentation, warforged are well liked wherever they go for being dedicated, tireless workers who are able to protect those around them.
Kingdom of Praelos
While Praelos tends to have a negative opinion of Zia, some warforged are drawn to the Kingdom of Violence, for they feel at home with warriors and soldiers. The people there can be untrustworthy of such clearly magical creations, but few will voice it due to respect or fear of the highly skilled fighters sired by Katas, a fairly well-regarded deity in those lands.
