The Brightisles island chain was named after the famous pirate Aria Brighteyes, who ended the endless storms by killing the unkillable kraken, facilitating the first Oth expansion from Shallen around 36fv.
Its said that the unkillableness of the kraken passed onto Aria and her first mate, and that they still rule the islands to this day, though they have waged a war on each other.
Though it is true that the island's inhabitants where once split into two factions. The Brighters and the Corvites, who had vastly different ideas on how things should be done. Eventually the Corvites switched sides, where killed, or were pushed out and ended up in Avalon.
