The Tears of Eva

The Isles of the Water Goddess, streaming with myths and legend of a bygone age.

The Tears of Eva is a name given to a large archipelago located on the north eastern reaches of Lorthwyn. Aptly named as it lies with the sea of miracles, the domain and birth place of the goddess of the seas. The Isles are shrouded in centuries of myth and legend, each one with their own stories that hark back to the times before recorded history. Passed down through generation to generation of Ishaanrii oral tradition.   The Islands are separated into a number of clusters, stretching the entire breadth of the golden veil of southern Lorthwyn.     The formation of the isles themselves has been something debated by Aelfaune scholars and academics of the Ivory tower for decades. Speculating that the Islands most likely broke off of the mainland of Lorthwyn during a series of ancient tremors and earthquakes, numerous myths and the few surviving written accounts from pre-history refer to a series of unimaginable storms and earthquakes that toppled mountains, moved the land and broiled the seas. The towers sages of magical theorem disagree, seeing such a view as ridiculous and quite far fetched. Instead they hypothesised that it was elder magic that sundered the isles from Lorthwyn, primordial elementals or battles that were once waged by the elder dragons when the world was young. However, the rest of the intelligentsia of the Ivory Tower view this idea with scorn and contempt. Rebuffing the claim and stating that most theologians of magical theorem always blame everything on Dragons.   Despite the Ivory Towers attempts to make sense of reality, another story is painted by the common folk and religious sects that surrounds the goddess is synonymous with the archipelago. The myths surrounding the creation of the Isles have been around before time in memorial, and are at the core of the Ishaanrii and their religion that call these islands home. The stories and songs of the Merfolk of the Seas and Merrows of river and stream also hold firm to these beliefs. being denizens born from the spirits and nymphs of the waters they have a deeper understanding genesis of the isles and the sires that spawned them.   The dispute of sky and sea.[Title a WIP]     As the myths of the Isles tell, the god of earth Jhollrg perused the goddess of the skies Hylress endlessly to be his bride. The very mountains themselves are told to being Jhollrgs attempts to display his devotion to the queen of the heavens, and try to reach his beloved. Time and time again the god of earth would pile the very grounds he ruled over skyward to reach his love, while time and time again, he failed, much to Hylresses amusement.   It would not be long before Jhollrg would lose interest, and instead turned his gaze elsewhere, to Eva, the beautiful goddess of the waters. Together they bore many children, the great water spirits who became the rivers, streams and lakes. These spirits would also go on to birth the numerous nymphs of streams, brooks and ponds that flowed from them. The union between Eva and Jhollrg would enrage Hylress, and the once close sisters relationship soured greatly.   What happened next, would change the world forever. For these two embittered rivals would begin a series of terrible battles, day after day, night after night. Their arguments would unleash terrible storms, hurricanes, maelstroms' and tsunamis upon the world. Ravaging the coasts and fracturing the land. In the chaotic bedlam of their conflict, the god '' was born and the south of Lorthwyn completed splintered, sinking much of it to the bottom of the oceans. In a moment of clarity, Eva, who held the greatest affection for the Aelfaune who dwelt upon the shores of these lands, saw the devastation they had wrought and began to weep for the countless souls lost. Those tears would take form and rise up, floating the fallen shards of Lorthwyn back to the surface. These isles would become the Tears of Eva, a haven for the descendants of those lost to the seas. It was these Isles that the Ishaanrii would settle by the grace of the goddess of the waters.   The legacy of this can be felt beyond the sea of tears, the seas still quake and broil as storms erupt out into the oceans as the arguments between Eva and Hylress erupt from time to time between these embittered rivals.

I like that it seems everything is connected, from the oceans, to the rivers and streams, to the nymphs. Great article :)
