Fuldair Sailors' School

History

The Sailors' School began as an offshoot of the Sailors' Guild in Fuldair in Y6A 204, established to provide a better education experience for up-and-coming sailors. At the time Fuldair was a haven for pirates, who found the sheltered river banks and multiple illicit access points to be incredibly useful for trading in stolen goods. Additionally, Fuldair was poorly governed at the time, and authorities were regularly bought out or illegally installed. The Sailors' Guild was perhaps one of the only legitimate ventures within Fuldair, and they maintained a resolute dedication to quality seamanship and high moral standards despite the corruption around them.   Around 622, the Sailors' Guild began supporting efforts to remap the world after the Age of Darkness (the 5th Age) had finally become but a mere memory, and the School expanded by opening its doors to anyone with an interest in the seas, cartography and shipbuilding. While piracy still held sway in Fuldair, the efforts of the Guild and School inspired many people to unite under legitimate causes. It is also around this time that the School openly admitted that it was receiving support from the Noble House, which improved its prestige and positioning immensely. By 679 the Guild were no longer able to manage the runnings of the School and it separated to become an independent entity, though they maintained strong ties. The School played a large part in the design and building of the new docks, including the Deepwater facilities, between 729 and 742.   For over 100 years after independence the School thrived, but by 784 it was becoming clear that the School's operations were no longer able to support the interest it was receiving. Significant investment from the House and from the Westport Shipyards saw the appropriation of new facilities in the Old Docks, which had fallen into disuse following the construction of the Deepwater Harbour and Platinum Dock. It was also during this time that the School began actively showing support for the Democratisation of Fuldair's government, with many of its students and staff attending rallies and protests against the corrupt officials. The position of the School, which had become something of a jewel in Fuldair's crown and therefore garnered great respect, persuaded the people of Fuldair instate the Court of Sails, their first democratically elected council, despite attempts by the corrupt to maintain the status quo. The Court and the School joined forces to promote the "De-Piratisation" of Fuldair, and legitimate business and trade skyrocketed. The School recieved the honour of being labelled an "Esteemed Establishment of the City" in Y6A 801, an honour it maintains to this day.   In early 804, the new facilities in the Old Docks were completed, and the School began the process of moving into its new buildings. The decision was made to rebrand as an Academy, and a full new prospectus was installed, giving birth to the Academy of Nautical Studies and Shipwrights.

Disbandment

The Fuldair Sailors' School was officially rebranded as the Academy of Nautical Studies and Shipwrights in early Y6A 804. The original school is considered dissolved for the purposes of business and asset management.
