Cult of the Radiant Engine
The Cult of the Radiant Engine is a small brotherhood of monks operating out of Ember-Heart. They are under the patronage of the Dwarven Lord, Gundren Ironhelm, of Ember-Heart. For the past hundred years, since the rule of Gundren Ironhelm's grandfather, the Cult has been observing and collecting ancient technologies that cannot be understood by traditional arcane means. However, their work is often made difficult by the Cult's insistence in following the correct rites and traditions around certain technologies - rites that the dwarves see little use in following themselves.
The Cult of the Radiant Engine was formed in the waning months of the 6th Era as an offshoot of the growing Church of the Broken God. The cult was initially split from the church by an engineer working for the UEG who gained unauthorised access to the facility used to house the Heart of Creation.
This engineer, Karl Fischer, reported himself to have been struck with such awe at the sight of the Heart of Creation that he saw the Church of the Broken God as nothing but a facade ever since. Church records indicate that he left with at least thirty followers, at least one week before the UEG strike on the church.
In the months leading up to the War for the Last Light, the Cult of the Radiant Engine was under surveillance by the UEG, but no action was taken due to the low risk the group presented.
During the War for the Last Light, the Cult was inducted into the 55th Marine Infantry in the 8th Combined Battlegroup, and given approval to execute inland partizan actions against enemy forces.
Mythology & Lore
The Cult shares a significant amount of scripture with the Church of the Broken God, but differs in their practices and enactment of the scripture. Like the Church, the Cult worships Phaeton, whom they see as a divine being who gave their life for the creation of Gaia, and who's heart lives on in the Heart of Creation.
