After Emperor Palpatine's death, he posthumously gave the order for his remaining Imperial Forces to begin Operation: Cinder to destroy hope and cement fear throughout the Galaxy. The Empire deployed specialized satelites around Imperial-loyal planets, causing massive storms meant to wreak untold destruction on their ecosystems and societies. It was ultimately stopped after the Battle of Jakku and the signing of the Galactic Concordance.
The Battle of Jakku was the decisive last stand of the Galactic Empire against the New Republic on the surface and above Jakku as the Galactic Civil War drew to a final conclusion after a year of prolonged fighting following the Battle of Endor.
