Scrisalin
Infamy Among Demonkind
These horrid Bassyric demons are one of the most well known of their kin. Making their prominance during the Yrchin Scourge, these demons were ushered into Virosia en masse and remain to this day as the most prolific demon. Deadly and terrifying, scrisalin have terrorized Virosia for millennia. "I know our will has waned. We've endurance with mien for travel that has been met with war. Our new home crumbles around us, and we've no options but one. Fear is inevitable. Death is assured. But we fight not for our lives. We fight, that life might perservere after us." -Ilmas VaegathWhat Horrors
Witnesses can generally only agree that scrisalin take the form of many-legged, spider or scorpion like creatures that are rather large and shrouded in darkness. What is more agreed upon, however, is how they act. They are irradic and wicked with haste. Much like all demons, they appear distorted and maligned. Most that witness demons are unable to agree with what form the creature took, despite seeing the same creature. Thus, knowledge of them is sparse and often incorrect. They care only for consumption and spreading their plague. They use their many arms to harass, trip and manipulate their prey, pulling them into their body, wherein lies what is many-fanged, articulated maw that swiftly devours the insides of a creature. Moreover, the secretion left over on the interior hardens the flesh, such that all that will be left is a brittle husk-turned-ashen. If there are no more foes to take the creatures attention, they will then vomit eggs of their young back into the husk before lying it down. A single adult human-sized body can produce ten or more scrislin. Their young grow rapidly in accordance with their consumption, though a scrisalin will reach its full size in a matter of weeks.Slaying Scrisalin
Scrisalin recoil from copper, and their flesh withers to its touch. As a result, many people to this day wear trinkets of copper and bronze to ward off the beasts. Their aversion, however, is rarely enough to stop them from making an effort to kill. Assembling enough of the material to full cover the body would be exhorbitantly expensive, though historically scrisalin hunters were known to do so, at least with bronze. Additionally, it rarely takes just one thrust of a blade through their abdomen to destroy them. Etraline, the blackbronze alloy derived from The Drostol Comet, performs extremely well against scrisalin. Simple cuts with weapons of this material have been seen to incapacitate and even kill the demons. Acquisition, however, is likewise rather expensive. Few weapons exist as smiths that craft the material into weapons are rare; etraline is rather ineffective for weapons save scrisalin.Hunters From The Selvedge
Demons have their preferences, and certain beasts and races get the short end of the stick in different places. Scrisalin are known to feast more fervently upon elven blood. Given the choice between two targets, one being elvish, a scrisalin will nearly always choose the elven individual if there is one. The reason is not known why, though scholars believe it may have to do with elven affinity for the veil, as scrisalin, and demons in general, react bizarrely in response to magic.
Scrisalin also hunt in numbers, with the largest packs being in the hundreds. Despite this, they are also proficient in ambush. Innately able to shroud themselves in whatever shadow may exist, scrisalin are creatures of hunting at any hour of the day, seemingly only limited by how much they have eaten, and with no need for rest. They do not, however, quarrel with one another over food when one is caught.
Additionally, scrisalin are seen in many ways to operate as a hive-mind. They move simultaneously over large groups, with clouds of them instantly changing direction in unison. Witnesses, however, have seen pairs of scrisalin seemingly meeting gaze, chittering and screeching to one another, indicating some kind of speech.
