The Successor Kingdoms

Once upon a time, there was an empire that spanned the whole of the world. It's technology made it strong, and it's heart made it loved by the people it ruled over.
It's even hand, firm at times, was taught by the Great Wyrms. Humanity looked to these winged serpents as protectors and teachers, and in turn the Wyrms filled that role greatly. Through this symbiosis, such things like the floating cities of Allag and Once-Flying Prothos, incredible magical weaponry and medical techniques,
Then one of the Great Wyrms was murdered and no one, man or Wyrm, had any lead.
When accusations began flying between the dragons, that is when the Empire truly fell apart as each Wyrm amassed a following of other Great Wyrms, their broods, and the rapidly fracturing Humans. Then the arrows start to fly. That war is a topic for another time, but it's course brought the Old Empire to it's knees, where it crumbled to dust, and Humanity is only partially to blame. Like a shattered pane of glass in a window, the pieces lay separately upon the floor, and would never quite fit bcak together.
The Courts, or the 'Successor Kingdoms' as they claim themselves to be, are those pieces that remain. Shattered though they may be, the genealogy of what they came from is readily apparent when one looks at all pieces together.
The Empire of the Sun and the Tsarinate of Brumel are each notable 'Successor Kingdoms", having been able to trace the lineage of their nations directly to the Old Empire. Their Great Wyms are the stuff of legends, and their history is some of the longest on record.
