The Escanaba Robodome
Being the largest Robodome outside Ishpeming, success at the Escanaba Robodome is the path to the big leagues. All robot gladiators have to prove themselves here if they truly want to make a name for themselves.
Purpose / Function
The Escanaba Robodome is a stadium where people pay to watch robots fight each other and bet on the outcome.
Architecture
The most recognizable landmark in the city of Escanaba, the Robodome stands taller than any other building and its round silhouette is unique.
The interior is well protected with earthen berms and ceramic-armored concrete blast walls. And even though robot gladiators are not permitted to use ranged weapons, explosions and thrown or flying scrap do present a hazard to spectators.
The E-Dome can sit about 30,000 people.
History
When American Football finally failed at the end of the 21st Century due to an inability to prevent permanent injuries, a robot version of the game was attempted. While it generated a lot of fans, it never truly caught on. The crowds seemed more interested in watching the robot collisions and take-downs more than point scoring. So eventually, Robot competitions catered to the fans' preferences and soon became outright combat.
There are no surviving Robodomes in North America from before the great cataclysm. But Northern Gun decided to resurrect the sport and built the Robodome in Ishpeming. When that proved to be extremely popular, they built a second dome in Escanaba. Smaller robodomes and travelling competitions have also become booming businesses. Because of its location right on Lake Michigan with easy access to Quebec and Chi Town, it has become a favorite attraction for people from all over North America.
