Chapter 09: May the 11th

General Summary

Hark, lo, and hearye, Mummers and 'mums,
Again we find out heroes in the midst of fighting for their lives.
Our Guardians worked to mitigate the damage of Dissonant Lyric's plot to depose the Baron and the Lady Fiona's elite from power. Despite the odds, and the slowly expanding crater, the Guardians worked to save orphans, the elderly, and bystander after bystander from the inferno - only for the spirits of the disturbed Shadar Kai catacombs to coalesce into a terrible specter! Thinking quickly, Charlemagne used the newly acquired Symbol of Ravenkind to hallow the earth beneath her, offering a haven of security to the people of Vallaki. The spector and its summoned spirits of the fallen seemed inexhausable as tendrils of energy flowed between them, until Ocarin himself reached out with his own power... Opening himself up to the familar chill of death and respite, Ocarin began to consume the legion of restless spirits, using himself as a bridge to the beyond. "Careful," whispered a stranger to our ex-mortal minstrel.
With calamity abated, and a relative peace restored to Vallaki, Ireena took charge of the guard and began to organize the town's resources to start the process of healing.
Dissonant Lyric, the culprits and proud liberators, escaped to the Arasek Stockyards and called on our Guardians and the town guard to find them there.
However, our heroes, ever the present minds, knew of a potentially far more pressing concern - the Lady Fiona Wachter's boasts of an undead army and terrible power. The Guardians left to investigate the Wachter Cult, only to find the cultists fighting amongst each other at the Wachterhaus. The cult had splintered and though the members wielded great power over the citizens of Vallaki, they were no match for the Guardians of the Horizon. The cultists were made into quick work, and though only one survived, none retained clean breeches, and the Guardians discovered the truth of the Wachter Cult: the Lady Fiona was a conman and through a rotation of ritualism and targeted validation transformed the insecurities of Vallaki's elite into a base of power to rival even the Baron himself.
The Guardians, inspired by Ireena's quick calls to action to save the people of Vallaki, consecrated the Wachterhaus against deception, intending it to serve and Ireena's personal Burgomaster's Mansion.
Now with Vallaki's existential threats answered, the Guardians ventured toward the Stockyards to find the anarchist band and perhaps to see justice done. However, just as our heroes rounded down a yet untraversed alleyway, they found themselves confronted by two hunters - regulars of the Blue Water Inn. "'been paid a small fortune to kill you lot," the older hunter shared, "he told us you was vampyrs too, but I'd've done it just for the coin..."
Will our Guardians survive this surprise attack? Who hired these men? How will the members of Dissonant Lyric fare? Will Vorthos ever find a blouse that fits? Only time will tell.
