The World of Aanrah

Welcome to the World of Aanrah

Born from the will and intent of the First Gods, Aanrah is a world teeming with life on the brink of technological and magical advancement. In the shadow of the collapse of their second of three moons, mortals have begun to harness what was once considered to be divine power and energy to their own will, conquering the monsters and very gods that once cowed them into submission. The world teeters on a fine edge between amazing creation and violent destruction as everyone struggles to find where they fit in in this new landscape.

About

Purpose

Aanrah is created as largely a 'headworld' of mine (Necr0wmancer), as a place to both develope characters and ideas, and as a world for possible future campaigns. With this in mind, it is designed mostly for fun and without a single set 'story' in mind, and with DnD 5e as the potential (current) system in which a game would be run on.

A Summary

The Basis

Aanrah is a high fantasy world in which many sentient races live together in the constant presence of the divine and other powerful beings. Aanrah itself exists as a planet once surrounded by three moons - Honoun, Baza, & Benshuen - which originally caused massive tidal changes on Aanrah. Life on Aanrah began their existences fighting to function with massively fluctuating tides, until thecollapse of the first moon, Honoun  , and eventually the disappearance of the second moon, Baza  .

A Brief(er) History

Aanrah was created by The First Gods - a collection of beings who had gathered at a point in reality with a well of power and promise. Together, they shaped the foundation for Aanrah, including its three moons and sun. After the first dragon god Bukrkry† split herself into the five first dragon gods, the world was considered to have started in ernest. The first millenia and a half was subject to violent tide changes as a result of the three moons, making life on the surface of the planet difficult for terrestrial races. The Dwarven Roads began in an attempt to ease traveling without having to deal with the tides, but otherwise terrestrial races found themselves largely restricted to their continents of origin. At what would become the end of the First Era, the moon gods Yalidil Rana and Ineyale Phor† made a move against the third moon god, Morden Oeru†, in an attempt to take over his moon of Honoun. The resulting conflict ended with his death and the creation of Oreik from his spilled blood. With the death of its god, Honoun collapsed, and the botched take over was pinned as Morden Oeru's fault and Oreik was a result of Morden's betrayal. Oreik was able to save some of the native Honoun moonfolk with the help of the exiled moon elves Zhün, the Exiled and Iuin of Clan Lan, and spirited them to Aanrah's Underground. Honoun partially collapsed into Aanrah, and though the loss of life from the resulting crash was great, the dragon Léookobrah sacrificed himself to stop the worst of the debris - and came back as a lesser god as a result.

With the loss of the largest moon, the worst of the tide changes vanished and allowed terrestrial races to expand further. Divine made races with inherent magical powers pushed for dominance over those in whom magic was not inherent, and races like dragons and fae outclassed all others. Aanrah saw a sharp increase in conflict and in general expansion, and several major events like Deiahdrahl's death by Maholdymyndr. Some of the most influential and well-known beings that became divine like Bróbh Boíg, Havalra Morningcutter, and Ursztü I Fellkieftószíszuh were born during these years, and participated in some of the most defining and well-known stories and legends on Aanrah. Eventually, a king by the name of Szaifudrus would be born on the war-torn continent of Draakrahlr. Left with a crumbling kingdom surrounded by famine and enemies, Szaifudrus would set out to make a pact with the god of magic Emrul, gaining extensive knowledge of how to cast magic as a mortal in exchange for making Emrul his kingdom's state-sponsored religion and not sharing his knowledge with others. Szaifudrus would break this pact and ultimately tell many the secrets he learned, leading to unrest and then a mob hungry for Szaifudrus's knowledge. Emrul turned Szaifudrus into a monster and allowed the mob and Szaifudrus to clash, ultimately destroying his kingdom. Though Emrul planned to slay Szaifudrus in the end, Yalidil Rana had slain Ineyale Phor and turned Baza into an artifact, binding the magic mortals had to it and then Szaifudrus as she placed the moon inside him. As a result, Emrul was unable to remove magic from all mortals as he intended to. Instead, he sealed Szaifudrus in a labyrinth as a punishment. With the disappearance of Baza and the rapidly spreading knowledge of magic, the Second Era came to an end.

With the tides more mellow and magic now readily accessable to all races, the world entered the Third Era and a new era of technology and expansion. Mortal kind turned on races that used to have advantage, driving them out of the world with their new found powers and technology. The dwarven tunnels began to see trains to speed up travel, and cannals were made to connect the major oceans with the help of technology. Dragon kind is hunted to near exctinction on the surface, and slowly but surely the remaining major dragon gods disappear from the world. Mortals reach new highs and push the bounds of magic, slowly closing the gaps between the mortal and the divine.
Thus is the modern age - a era where mortals can now hold their own against beings who would have once been impossible to defeat. Mortals across the world strive to shape the world as the divine do, and stand up against the beings who once might have dominated over them. The world has reached new heights of cultural exchange, communication, and advancement, but also sees new extremes of conflict and war.
