The Dwarven Mines

Commonly referred to by the non-dwarven population of the Azure Coast as "the Dwarven Mines," the coastal kolkhoz, or mining colony, of Mandrazan is located one day's ride east of Saltmarsh. Despite being worked for nearly a decade under the direction of the formidable Manistrad Copperlocks, Mandrazan retains the appearance of a temporary encampment, albeit a very industrial one. In addition to ordered rows of tents, the only permanent buildings visible are the entrance to the mine workings themselves and a series of small ore-processing facilities that belch smoke and steam into the air both day and night. Metals and other goods produced by the dwarves are transported via a short narrow-gauge rail line to a massive artificial stone pier that juts out from the shoreline and connects the kolkhoz and its products to the traders of the Azure Sea.   The less-than-impressive nature of Mandrazan's surface appearance, however, belies the extensive development that has occurred underground. In less than a decade, the dwarves have extended the mine's tunnel network nearly a league inland and have begun to engineer the complex system of ventilation shafts needed to move the refining processes below ground. Given the mining colony's "newcomer" status on the Saltmarsh coast, the true scope of the Mandrazan project is only rarely shared with non-dwarves...

Industry & Trade

Mining (predominantly metals of various sorts), quarrying, and basic metals processing/refining form the principal industries of Mandrazan. The different resources collected from the growing mine workings are shipped out via coastal trading vessels that dock at the mining colony's massive stone pier.
