The Siphon
The Siphon is a wonder of science and magic alike. After Bala tore through the barrier between what was real and what was myth, the Curanthian scientists of Hylore worked night and day to stabilize the world's connection to magic. Bala's rampage had caused a massive surge in power that had all but short circuited the layer of magic that surrounded the prime material plane. After months of tireless work, The Siphon was born. A machine that directly connected the web of magic to this plane, The Siphon became a target for fanatics' praise and worship. Cults quickly arose claiming that The Siphon could hear your prayers and would answer. Strictly forbidden by Curanthian law, nevertheless, Siphoners, as they came to be called, went throughout the land preaching the glory of "The Machine That Made Whole."
Historical Basis
Though no one outside the circle of scientists who invented it have seen it, no one can deny the stabilization of magic throughout the land. The Siphon is said to be sealed away far underground beneath the ruins of Hylore.
Spread
The legend of The Siphon is a household myth similar to stories of the boogeyman. Most folk don't put stock in it, but there are those, known as Siphoners, who worship it.
Variations & Mutation
Some claim The Siphon was a person, sacrificed to the web of magic to appease it.
Others claim that it is a cover for some nefarious deal that the government made with less than admirable patrons.
Cultural Reception
Worship of The Siphon is strictly forbidden by Curanthian law. Any object or being that detracts from the worship of The Six is considered a direct threat to the throne. King Wildpride ordered the group of scientists responsible for creating it to seal it away for good.
