Dvati

The Dvati are a race of twin-minded creatures, two bodies sharing one soul and one mind. They share experiences between each other but each individual body of a Dvati may be prone to its own quirks. Dvati are naturally identical twins born from another twin pair. They organize themselves into sedentary Clans which are a common sight within the major cities across Aberiam. They are among the oldest races on Aberiam, having existed since the earliest histories.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dvati are a uniquely magical species with one Dvati being made up of two identical but separate bodies. Otherwise, they are similar to Elves in appearance with snowy white skin and a naturally lean appearance.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dvati share a strange feature about their reproductive nature where if a female Dvati becomes pregnant her other half will become pregnant within the same timeframe, regardless of any physical interaction with anyone. In both cases, there is a chance that either a Dvati or twins of the father race will be born. The same thing occurs with a male Dvati mating with a female of another race where the children born will either be twins of the mother race or a Dvati.

Growth Rate & Stages

Dvati age at the same rate as Elves, reaching physical maturity at the same time as humans, they are considered fully matured at around 100 years old. Some Dvati pairs have been known to live a thousand years. However, it is uncommon for Dvati to live past 400 years.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Dvati organize themselves into Clans which are led by a council of Dvati, two Dvati pairs, who decide the future of the Clan. These Clans are very close-knit due to the propensity for Dvati to trust others of their species far more than those of other species.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Dvati are common within cities, forming their own colonies, sections of the city quartered off for Dvati inhabitation.

Average Intelligence

Dvati, despite their twin-minded nature, are typically only as intelligent as a typical human.

Civilization and Culture

Culture and Cultural Heritage

The Dvati have a culture of trust and fellowship, seeking balance and order to do good to others. In the same way, the Dvati are a people with a storied history who seek their own sovereignty and are prepared to defend their groups. They practice a long lineage of heavy infantry with Dvati regiments being prized units even to this day.

Common Taboos

Dvati pairs being taken apart from one another for extended periods of time creates great discomfort in the pair which can lead to madness and paranoia.

History

A thousand years before the Gods Plague, it is said that the Dvati ruled an Empire of their own on the Northwestern Continent of Aurelia. Their soldiers were famed across the world and they worshipped the precursor Goddess Mór-Ríoghain who was devoured by Tiamat during the Gods Plague. After Mór-Ríoghain was devoured, the Dvati's empire faced a decline caused by opportunistic races around them. Even the Dvati army which had to that point been famed across the world failed to preserve the Empire for more than two centuries. This forced a diaspora which continues to this day as the Dvati culture has been preserved through the current Clans. After the rebirth of Mór-Ríoghain into two pairs of goddesses, Morrigan-Badh and Ceridwen-Macha, the Dvati would begin to worship the four goddesses.

Common Myths and Legends

Many believe the Dvati and Elves to be closely related species due to the resemblance of Dvati to Elves in some regards. This may have some support as offspring between Dvati and Elves, when born Elves, hold a kind of special connection which, while not on the level of a Dvati pair, bring them closer together. However, it is believed that the Dvati were created on Aberiam by Mór-Ríoghain on Aberiam while the Elves were originally natives of Archefyre.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Dvati view the other races as their youngers who can learn something from the experiences of the Dvati and their history. At best, this comes off as endearing thanks to the Dvati's empathetic nature but at worst it comes off as condescending.   Due to thousands of years of conflict, Dvati generally hold a distasteful opinion of Elves with some Dvati being outright hostile towards Elves.
