Bleak Dales
The Bleak Dales are a region of the world that lies between three mountain ranges. The area between is a rolling landscape of hills and dales, dotted with smaller woodlands, villages and isolated castles atop the more prominent hilltops. The entire area has a general feeling of being cursed, the trees tned to be gray and never seem to grow straiht up, taking a twisted apearance, it is fairly cold and thick fogs often accumulate for much of the year. The Bleak Dales are a perfect setting for horror-themed games as foul creatures abound but not is all as it seems.
There is a general acceptance of dark magic in these lands, as either institutional or inevitable, undead and practice of necromancy are commonplace. Cabals of Devil worshipping Warlocks work in the open and in some places, devils walk the land and souls are regularly traded like currency.
The curse of Lycanthropy is common, a scourge on the lands, it is said that the curse is caused by Daeven, many with the curse hide inside the Razorwoods where they consort with hags.
The Gods Jolenquey, Hess and Metoro, Gods of devils, undead and aberrations influence these lands twisting the lands, making the Razorwoods and plains of madness deadly places. Even the so-called forces of good have become twisted in this region.
The Knights of Purity, an order dedicated to Pottre operate throughout the Dales. They are fanatical, militant, and ruthless in their pursuit to end the various horrors of the Dales, so much that they have become one of the horrors. Launching inquisitions and murders on anyone suspect if being ‘impure.’
Adventurers in the Bleak Dales are called on to protect the common folk against the horrors of the dales. They will struggle to survive while championing the helpless, whilst ending the problems of the Bleak Dales is likely an impossibility, heroes can at least lighten the burden that the locals feel. To be a hero in the Dales, you need a strong stomach, brave heart, and firm resolve.
