There are six layers of separation in the Shattered Realms; four of which define the various heights of islands and floating islands; and the other two comprise the realms within the core of the world. The farther out from the core the islands are, the drier and more hostile it becomes. The closer to the core the islands are, the more the islands produce plant life and are able to attain water easier. Every layer to the world has a very unique biome that contains its own varieties of plants, creatures, and people groups. The islands all have a very essential crystal, called Refractite, that allows the islands to float and allows water to form into floating globules that provide water to many of the higher islands. The crystals also allow some waterfalls to flow upwards and create streams of floating rivers.
