Vel To'ori

Written by and bufiogarugi
The Vel To'ori were the predecessors to the Vel Tuturi. According to the Vel Tuturi History Tomes, the Vel To'ori were oppressed and attacked by the Tridomatrics.

Structure

Historical records say that the organization of the Vel To'ori was similar to the Vel Tuturi (which makes sense, as they were the predecessors to the Vel Tuturi). In truth, the main differences are the lack of roles that deal with the ruling of large areas.
  • High Priests/Priestesses
  • Priests/Priestesses

High Priests/Priestesses

The High Priests and High Priestesses were the leaders of individual temples. Typically, one temple would only have one High Priest or High Priestess, though sometimes a temple might have two. Their duties centered around keeping the temple and its patrons safe, as well as communicating with other High Priests and High Priestesses.

Priests/Priestesses

Priests and Priestesses were in charge of leading worship in individual temples. They had no duties to other temples, though some would still accompany their temple's High Priest/High Priestess to talks with other High Priests/High Priestesses. Sometimes Priests or Priestesses would even be appointed as honorary bodyguards for their High Priest/High Priestess.

Public Agenda

Simply put, the records state that the Vel To'ori's public agenda was to put an end to the tyranny and oppression at the hands of the Tridomatrics. When that was achieved, they symbolically changed their name and organization to the way it is today, to show that their purpose has been fulfilled and that a new fire had been lit within their descendants.

Assets

The Vel To'ori had only their temples, which were often hidden underground or deep within a forest. This was to hide them from the Tridomatrics.
Beyond that, the Vel To'ori had very little. Some were fortunate enough to hold down jobs that allowed them to pretend they were living an average life. Many others were often forced to seek shelter and solace within the temples, as the Tridomatrics would also often destroy the homes of anyone found to be of the Vel To'ori.

History

The history of the Vel To'ori is recorded in the Vel Tuturi History Tomes. The tomes tell stories of the Vel To'ori being attacked and demonized by the Tridomatrics. These times were marked with dozens upon dozens of raids by the Tridomatrics, in which they would attack a Vel To'ori temple and destroy it.
"We have not always been the rulers of the world. Once upon a time, we were trampled beneath the feet of the Tridomatrics. They enslaved us, mocked us, abused us. Until one day we could take no longer, and we rose up to attack them."

I love the info, but name those two names are so close to each other...

It's half the same word, and two somewhat similar concepts, so kind of understandable.

Yeah, the idea is that they're the predecessors, so they picked a somewhat similar name. As I said in the article, they picked a new name to show that their purpose had shifted. However, keeping the name somewhat similar shows that "hey, our purpose isn't completely that anymore, but it's still kinda the same".
Basically, the name "Vel Tuturi" is a callback to "Vel To'ori".

I liked this article. However, I'd suggest some clarification in the opening paragraph of what the Vel To'ori are. Presently, it assumes we know what the Vel Tuturi are but the average reader does not.

That'd be why I added an to the Vel Tuturi article, since really the only places the average reader would see the name "Vel To'ori" would be on articles also talking about the Vel Tuturi

The link is right there, though it could perhaps be improved by 'to the Vel Tuturi, the current dominant religion of Actrein'

I suppose I could do that. I was somewhat worried that might mess with the flow of the article for the readers who do know who the Vel Tuturi are, though. Kind of like in games where you have to play through the tutorial despite having played the game to the end five times.

The rule of thumb is that every article should usually be understandable by its own, and links should only deepen understanding, not be a requirement for it. That is how the contests and challenges are judged by Janet too. It can sometimes be hard to write that way though, I understand.

Hmm... who are the Tridomatics? Based on the Vel Tuturi, I wonder if their oppression was really all that... oppressive.

That's the fun thing with history and victors, isn't it? Can never be too certain who's lying and who's being honest.

I liked it! Short but concise, and well-written. I would suggest, as Xanthuss did in his comment, to specify that they are a religious cult in the first sentence. Although there are links, it's good for articles to be self-contained, in my opinion.
