Vel Tuturi History Tomes

Written by and bufiogarugi
The Vel Tuturi history tomes are a collection of the historical writings kept by the Vel Tuturi. These records are sacred to the Vel Tuturi, and they will stop at nothing to protect them from being destroyed.
The writings were said to begin their lives as scrolls kept by the Vel To'ori, before being rewritten into books for easier protection and safekeeping.

Purpose

The history tomes are meant to keep records of the ancient stories from before the present era. As such, they are of high importance to the Vel Tuturi, and are often kept in great libraries or churches.
On some occasions, copies of the history tomes have also been kept in universities for the purpose of education and safekeeping.

Historical Details

Background

The Vel Tuturi believe that these documents were originally secret scrolls that were hidden away from the Tridomatrics. They were simple records of events as they happened, written by someone who had witnessed the event or taken part in it.

History

It is believed that the scrolls were rewritten into a series of books for the sake of easier reading and transportation. This was after the event they called The Great Rebellion, in which the predecessors to the Vel Tuturi rose up to overthrow the ones they called "the Tridomatrics".

Legacy

These books are seen as the ultimate record of truth and history. They are frequently used to teach students about the world's history.

Ooo! Sacred tomes as history keepers are always interesting to play with, especially since they may not actually be 100% accurate (history is written by those who wrote it down, after all).

I won't say whether they're accurate, but I will say that history does indeed tend to be written by the victors.

The section under Purpose has a very passive voice to it, so you may want to re-phrase it. That being said, it's a pretty clean article overall.

I mean, the tomes themselves aren't very active tomes :P Joking aside, should I instead phrase it as "the Vel Tuturi keep the tomes safe" and such? Glad you like the article despite the phrasing in Purpose, though!

Indeed, a sacred text that informs all of society? Always great ways to work with that.

Very nicely detailed and laid out article, along with the excerpts pop up! Were these texts ever written in other languages in your world? If so, how did the scribes verify the accuracy of the information, even from scrolls to book form? Was there a leading authority to oversee this process?

Interestingly enough, the Vel Tuturi are rather tight-lipped about what language the scrolls were originally written in. They'll usually say that it was written in an ancient language, though how they translated it into the modern languages of Actrein is one of the greater mysteries about these historical tomes.
Some conspiracy theoristsheretics believe this is a hole in the Vel Tuturi's story, that it shows that there's something they're hiding from the rest of the world. But those are just conspiracy theories, after all.
As for the verification, some members of the Vel Tuturi say that the records were cross-referenced with others' stories. Most say that in all likelihood, one of the Regional Ministers oversaw this process, though records of that in particular are rather sparse.
