Kiruna

"Walking down the cobbled alleyways that lead to my old home, I felt a certain sense of serenity and nostalgia overcome me. The street was virtually unchanged even after half a century, looking exactly the same except for the renovation works. The fresh air, the small houses of basalt and the well known inns, all of the, contributed to this being the best city one could live in on Cadmeia."   Aiden Tallorann remarking on his hometown of Kiruna.
The City of Kiruna is the third largest city in Cadmeia. Located in the Northern Highlands and the Fjellheim mountains, this city is known for being one of the most vital regions of the entire planet, providing an enormous amount of IT startups , advancements and research, military software and other forms of technology which it supplies to The Imperial Terran Federation. This is partly because of the extremely resource rich area the city is located in, providing prospectors with a huge amount of precious materials to sell on other planets and make their fortunes as well as using those for IT startups.

Demographics

Unusual for a Cadmeian settlement, Kiruna contains a large amount of aliens as well as humans. Several high ranking positions in the cities administration are occupied by Lycans and many of the Alien inhabitants of the city serve in the city watch alongside their human brethren. It also contains the least amount of poverty stricken people in all of Cadmeia, being only slightly higher in that list than Kallius or Valcoran due to the enormous mineral wealth and job opportunities one can find in this city

Government

Kiruna, like most other Cadmeian cities, is governed mostly by a high overseer, who has the final say on everything that runs the city. The higher overseer themselves are part of the board of Overseers, a collection of 12 individuals who each have the task of running a part of the city. The Overseers board is further divided into the administrative and martial departments, with the former concerning non martial matters and administration of the city and the latter concerning Security, armaments production and law enforcement.

Defences

"They plan on breaking the city again huh? After billions of them perished whilst trying to do so? I would like to see them try again and see what tricks they have up their sleeves this time. Rest assured, it will fail spectacularly and their fates will be far more grisly than their ancestors"   Augustus Ludwig, remarking on the nigh impenetrable defences of the City.
The city, is extremely heavily fortified, being not only protected by gigantic fortifications but a vast army as well. The city watch which contains all of the human inhabitants of the city and functions as a dual Police and Gendarmerie style military force. This is further supplemented by the auxiliary force of Aliens that live in the city, with each of them defending the city just as zealously as their Human brethren. The city is protected from orbital and artillery bombardments by gigantic force field generators which project a shield over the city. The city watch is known for its strength and is fully equipped with the best vehicles, weapons and equipment that the Federation has to offer, given the fact that they are at the frontier of mankinds space. The gates themselves are known to be blast and artillery proof and have to be scaled over most of the times.

Industry & Trade

" Tech and the resources from the Earth are what keeps this city running. We earn a lot from exporting the best pieces of military tech one can find on this planet to the other parts and even offworld. In return, we get heaps of cash and food to feed ourselves. Honestly, I couldn't have found a better city to settle in"
Kiruna is known for its bustling and robust IT and technology industry. Being located near the biggest field of valuable materials including Valcoranium, this city is also known for being a major exporter of surplus materials to offworld as well as in world colonies . Most of this is traded for food and other biomaterials that the city lacks, with the biggest and at times only source of food coming from the Kirunan great lakes. It also trades with smaller settlements in the region and gives them high end weapons, military tech, vehicles, war materials , security in exchange for them contributing to the overall safety of their region and dedicating a portion of their yields to Kiruna, which depends upon how much they produce. This creates an organic and bustling amount of trade which keeps both the planet and the settlements within it intact.   The city contains a large number of educational institutes

Infrastructure

The settlement is known for its huge factories which constantly churn out armaments day and night, being tended to carefully by Automatons carrying out the will of their masters. The city contains a myriad number of buildings including inns, forges, factories, airfields, giant roads and bridges that link the city together and many others. The administrative department takes great care to keep the city clean, as dirtiness could lead to higher chances of plagues and the attraction of the demonic plague titan, Neethkin. Another part of the city that is remarkable is its heavily advanced IT infrastructure, upon which most of the city depends and is renowned for.

Assets

"They say they can conquer this city in a few weeks. Considering the fact that everyone of their brethren who has tried to do so has met their ends either under our blazing guns or in the jaws and claws of the beasts that roam outside, I Would like to see them try. If they try to starve us, no worries. We will just go outside the city, Send them back to the hell they came from and go back to our normal lives"   A member of the City watch, remarking on the hard time demonic forces have to besiege the city.
The city, like most other large Cadmeian settlements is designed from the ground up to withstand long term sieges and large scale invasions. It contains gigantic stores of munitions, weapons , vehicles, food and material to keep the city running at full pace for months at a time, enough time for a responding force to Counterattack and remove the threat to the city. The stores are only taken from in times of severe emergency and are guarded heavily by elite soldiers of the city watch who are handpicked to serve this purpose.

History

Kiruna was one of the earliest settlements of Cadmeia, being settled just before the beginning of the first Cadmeian summer by the original colonists. It had been built after reports came in that a gigantic field of precious and heavy materials lay in the region it was located in. The The Imperial Terran Federation found it too big of an opportunity to slip by and built the settlement of Kiruna near the Kirunan great lakes. In 800 years, this settlement grew to a gigantic one that dominated the entire region on an almost continental level . The citizens were happy and whilst they constantly battled against the forces of Kerr like everyone else, they felt happy with a government that genuinely cared for their lives and with the high living standards of their city. But Alas, this would all change in the year 2980.

Kiruna Falls

" God, i don't want to revisit those days. The city which my family had called home for about half a millenium just burnt down to the ground with the rest of my homeworld. My friends and family were butchered, mutilated and desecrated by those fucking assholes who should have stayed in the cesspit they were stuck in. I Swear I will take my vengeance for this. In this life or the one that comes after"   Sergeant Axel of the Kirunan city watch, after the destruction of Kiruna and Cadmeia.
In 2980, the largest offensives by the forces of Kerr in human history finally broke the planet. Despite the valiant attempts by humanity and the other races of the Alliance, they could not hold back the demonic tide and Cadmeia had fallen at last .   In this time, Kiruna was one of the very last cities to fall, holding out far longer after the surrounding regions had been completely razed to the ground. Facing particular difficulties in taking control of the settlement, the demonic forces employed a deadly parasitic entity to infect the inhabitants and drive them insane, only to be reincarnated as the mindless servants of Kerr. It worked and soon, most of Kiruna went mad. In a valiant effort to deny the Demons what they wanted , the remaining inhabitants rigged the city to completely explode and in the flames, take the demons with them to the underworld. The plan worked and their sacrifice had paid off in stalling the demonic in Cadmeia for a while before it was again invaded and fell.

Natural Resources

" We have a fuckload of Heavy materials and other resources here that cant be found on any other world. Heck this field alone contains far more than a million times more titanium and uranium than all of the terrestrial planets in the Sol system combined. Not to mention the Valcoranium sprinkled in between them. Theres a reason why this city is so flourishing and its all because of the resources here and the natural beauty and resources of the lake"   A Kirunan citizen remarking on the immense natural wealth of the Northern Highlands .
Kiruna lies next to the most resource rich region on Cadmeia. Containing far more than a million titanium and Uranium as well as other heavier elements and metals than the 4 terrestrial planets of the Sol system combined, this region is aptly named the Gold valley as well due to the richness of the area. The resources are mostly used for the defense of the planet with some of it being shipped to other planets and supplying them. The settlement itself was established in the first place as a mining colony besides consolidating this region for mankind. Besides that, the forests in the region also provide a lot of materials like wood for cheap construction materials and a lot of other biomaterials that have thousands of uses, both lethal and non-lethal. The Kirunan great lakes are known to supply water and food to this entire region, being one of the main things the city depends upon for its survival.

Geography of Kiruna

Located mostly in the Northern Highlands and near the Kirunan great lakes, Kiruna has beautiful views of the Fjellheim mountains that can be seen from the city. Water for the city and most of its food comes from the lakes themselves, which contain an extremely diverse variety of aquatic animals and plants for the inhabitants of the city to feast upon.

In the winter, the lake is completely frozen and fishermen therefore have to make large holes in the ice and descend down into the dark and cold waters to retrieve food to survive the winter years.

Things to do

"Looking to get into the hall of legends eh? I"m sure you"ll have a great time learning about our legends and heroes there
The city itself is a lively and bustling one, full of people going about their busy lives. Most of the tourist attraction to this city comes for the Hall of Legends, a gigantic museum dedicated to remembering the victims , heroes , legends and all those who gave their life in the past wars involving Cadmeia and mankind. It also contains many antique artifacts and weaponry, dating back to the early days of the colony itself

Short answer, your article is great. Great use of quotes and content. You bring the city to life and give all the info one would need on it. Simply great work!   Long answer, there are a few things to note, however. A few minor things like an extra "the" in line 5, in front of the The Imperial Terran Federation.   In the "Defence" section there are two occasions where you could use other phrases. The second line of the quote could be rewritten like Millions of their brethren already paid the price. Would differentiate the line more from its predecessor. The second is in the first line of the text. Maybe say that the settlement ìs extremely well defended. Otherwise, it sounds a bit repetitive when you are using "fortifications" a few words later.   In "Industry" a few nitpicks. In Line 2 of the quote, it would be "on" instead of "in". Also, the author of that quote is missing. is also known for being a major exporter of surplus materials to offworld as well as in world colonies as well. The second "as well" is unnecessary. Here overall security of their region the word "safety" works better.   "Infrastructure" is fine, but you use "the" as the first word in nearly every sentence. It just sounds repetitive while reading through it.   In "Kiruna Falls" there are two things to mention. The first sentence can be streamlined like In the year 2980, the largest offensive by the forces of Kerr in human history finally broke the planet. Shorter but gives the same information. Second, you use the phrase "the plan worked" two times in consecutive sentences. Maybe exchange the second one with "It worked" or something like that.   Additionally, a few pictures of futuristic buildings, factories etc would help to make the article feel more alive. Then there is the sidebar. First, the "Geography" and "Things to do" sections would look better if placed under the basic info panel. It just looks better this way. In my opinion at least. If you have space for more things maybe add a few important events, that took place in Kiruna or famous personalities being born/having lived there. It helps give depth aside from the general information you provide.   Aside from that, as I said before, great work man! Nothing more I can add.

Formatting is fine, although you need to do something about the CSS in your quotes. Had I not accidentally moused over the name of the author, I wouldn't have seen it was a link. I would also prefer if the actual quote text was a different color and size than the author text. It's common to make the author italic and smaller than the quote text itself.   You really need to find a different header as well. That JPEG-artifact ridden, low-resolution image does the article a great disservice. Your second sentence in the article is a massive run-on sentence. See if you can re-write that. Make it several sentences instead and try to not have it be so obnoxiously long. You mention that Kiruna has an unusually high concentration of aliens. Why? You also mention that there is low poverty. Why? I would recommend going through the article and looking at your "known for" phrasings. Particularly in the beginning of the article you use this phrasing a lot and it becomes distractingly repetitive. I would also argue against capitalizing "aliens". It's not a title nor a pronoun, so I would keep it non-capitalized. You could say the same for "demons".

First off Redclaw, a great entry! You explain most of the important features of why this colony is important, how it was formed, and some of the tribulations it has gone through. Your content is well laid out and you have improved much over the previous competitions.   Some feedback I have for the future. Your css in some places is a bit chunky. I believe this is a pre-built, but revisiting the quotes and breaking up some of your larger blocks of text either through columns or through micro-headers might be super useful here.   Also, you might be able to add some awesome statistics or short entries into the sidebar in order to save room and try to match the length of the two.   As for some content improvements, you leave a lot of critical points to single line explainations when they could probably have made great columns.   For example, the alien presence which you state is so heavy, three or four sentences explaining why they are proud and there would have been awesome.   Don't be discouraged my man! You are absolutely improving, and if you have any questions about my feedback, feel free to hit me up!
