Second Mate Edward Beatty (a.k.a. Steady Ned)
Steady Ned Beatty is third in the chain of command aboard the Shepherd. He’s an older human with a big mustache and a serious disposition. He’s been aboard the Shepherd longer than anyone else and is the only other crewmember besides Captain Akrus to have served under the Shepherd’s previous Captain. As Second Mate, Ned assists with navigation and steerage and sees to the wellbeing of the crew. In officer meetings, Ned is tasked with speaking with the crew’s voice, and as such casts two votes in any debate.
