Pitfall Trap

One of, if not the, oldest trap designs in existence, a versatile and flexible design, that can be altered in a great many ways to be more or less deadly, larger or smaller in size and depth.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Deployment Time and Tools: 1 hour, and a shovel (or other necessary tools for harder surfaces)

Effected Area: 5 foot or 10 foot square area.

Trigger Mechanism/Conditions: Most often is simple but cunningly covered to look like walkable terrain, matching the surrounding ground as close as possible, but the covering being thin enough that walking on it will cause it to collapse.

Immediate Effects: Target creature that walks upon it must immediately make an Agility Defense Test. If they fail, they fall, taking appropriate falling damage and are prone. If successful, they still fall, but take only half damage and are not prone.

Lasting Effects: They are stuck in a pit, most pit traps go down some fifteen feet.
