Faronian polytheism

The faronians worship a pantheon of gods and goddesses, some local and others adopted from neighbouring cultures, such Fanasis of the Góalanics, and Dór and Tíf of the Dardians. Though the most important rituals are performed within or near temples, they are restricted to cities and most rituals are performed at sacred groves, springs, boulders or -in the Zóken Mountains- open-air peak sanctuaries.

Major deities

Bas

Faronian: Bas /paːs/
Bas (desa)

Bas is the god of metalworking and blacksmith of the gods, usually depicted as a smith with a circlet on his head. The most popular story about Bas describes how the fire from his forge was stolen by a divine raven Kollos, how the hero Íþres managed to retrieve it and as a reward was taught the secrets of metallurgy, which the hero later shared with his people.

Íþres

Faronian: Íþres /iːθrɛs/
Íþres (desa)

Íþres is the greatest hero in faronian mythology, a demigod whose paternity varies depending on the story, born to a mortal woman but raised by Hill lions after being abandoned by her family. Íþres appears in numerous tales where he fights monsters and barbarians, helps the gods, and also taught faronians metalworking, agriculture and how to properly honour the gods.
His center of worship is in the city of Iþría in southern Faron.

Kíþó

Faronian desa: Kíþó /khiːθou/
Kíþó (desa)
Dalindrean (dalindrean script): Ral Kvazúl /raːl khvaːzuːl~raːl khvaːsuːl/
Ral Kvazúl (dályndríurúnir)
Dalindrean (desa): Ral Kvasúl /raːl khvaːsuːl/

Kíþó is the main fertility goddess of the faronians, often depicted as a woman with horns on her head, wearing a cowhide cloak, holding sheaf of wheat in one hand and a bunch of grapes in the other. Originally worshiped by cowherds on the Tó Plain in eastern Faron, Kíþó's cult has since spread as far as far as Núrak to the west and Ytis to the north, though her role and appearance varies greatly across these regions.

Kollos

Faronian: Kollos /khɔlːɔs/
Kollos (desa)
Dalindrean: Ral Vrúnúk (dalindrean script) /raːl vruːnuːkh/
Ral Vrúnúk (dályndríurúnir)
Dalindrean: Ral Vrúnúk (desa) /raːl vrunukh/

Kollos is a trickster god in the form of a raven, sometimes referred to as the Raven King. Though not exactly evil, numerous stories in faronian mythology describe how Kollos' lust for shiny things caused numerous troubles for gods and mortals alike, such as stealing golden apples meant to grant everlasting life to mortals before accidentally dropping them into the sea.

Funeral practices

Burial is the norm among faronians, and while the exact details vary, the general rule is that commoners are buried in a fetal position along with a bit of food, drink and sometimes tools of their trade, while members of the aristocracy are placed in elaborately painted stone or terracotta sarcophagi within family tombs.
