Jóal Plateau
The Jóal Plateau1 is an area in the eastern Sjorgús Mountains, specifically in the region of Gartaríen, home of the Gartaraz-dwarves. The Retetevaz and Púrtevaz tribes controls most of the plateau, whose members subsist on a mixture of herding sheep and cattle, gathering berries and hunting wild game, particularly wild mountain goats, marmots and ptarmigans.
Geography
The plateau's environment is characterized by a mixture of alpine tundra and montane grasslands, which transitions into a shrub- and woodlands around the river Taþyrin to the east. Snowfall is far lesser than in other parts of the Sjorgús Mountains due to more arid climate there.
The only structures on the Jóal Plateau are simple pens to keep livestock safe overnight, and megaliths with carved or painted images of eagles and ptarmigans, totemic animal of the Púrtevaz and Retevaz, respectively.
