Crystal Desert
Geography
Deep within the southwestern part of the White Desert lies a bed of crystal and salt. Due to the localized phenomena of persistent lightning strikes and electicity prevalent in the area, the Crystal Desert gets it name because although it was once made primarily of sand, it has now morphed into a wasteland of salt and silica. The salt has a harshness to it that makes it difficult to traverse, and because it is interlaced with crystal, sleeping on such rough terrain is near impossible.
Localized Phenomena
Because of the influence of Rahantorax, there are persistent storms that dominate this part of the desert. Crackling lightning and booming thunder rage wherever the blue dragon rests for a period of time. Sinkholes and thinning silica can be spotted across the desert, creating spotted holes across the terrain. Clouds of sand and dust whirl from place to place, while lightning arcs from the large crystal shards standing prominent above the salt. Many of these pheonemena have been exacserbated by the influence of an ancient wellspring, which has created a nuanced combination of dragonic and arcane energies proliferating throughout the region.
Fauna & Flora
The desert is easily identifiable for those traveling across the white desert as jagged crystal formations have sprouted across the landscape, preventing any other plant life from growing. Unlike the rest of the white desert, there are not cacti, succulents, mesquite trees, or creosote bushes. It is purely uninhabited wasteland, devoid of natural life, and serving only one master.
Beasts of the wilderness know to avoid the crystal desert, not only because of its uninhabitable nature but because of the creature that caused the phenomena to occur in the first place, the blue dragon Rahantorax. The mighty dragon preys oftens on beasts foolish enough to enter his ever expanding domain, like scorpions, hyenas, vultures, and lizards. In addition, because of the influence of the blue dragon, many dust elementals have emerged, scouring the lands near his lair.
