Falls of the Sun

Located just off the eastern shores of the Azure Isle is the majestic waterfall known as the Falls of the Sun. It is believed to be sacred to Elel the Sovereign, goddess of the Sun and the most significant natural site for the Church of Elel. It has a close association with Riaun, the elven temple of the crown as the temple was built nearby in full dedication to Elel. Due to its remote location on the isle, the Falls of the Sun is not visited very frequently even by the most fervent and zealous of Elel worshipers. However, those who have made the pilgrimage and visited the top of the waterfall are rewarded with unobstructed views of the sunrise and the purest blessing of the sun. Pilgrims have claimed they receive divine infused magic, being able to wield the radiance of the dawn if they say the correct incantation.   The waterfall itself is remarkable, as if the cove it pours down into was carved from the rock by divine hands. It stands at the end of a small river, running northwest to southeast, down the plateau. Within its cove are a number of holy pools, said to heal those wounded who bathe in them. Atop the waterfall, several Elelian zealots carved out embrasures in order to defend the holy site, and ward off unwanted intruders.   In order to locate and reach the Falls of the Sun requires intimate knowledge of the Azure Isle, and although many have searched for it, few have actually laid eyes on its majesty. Only the most devout followers of Elel are said to know how to reach its heights, and witness the glory of the dawn above the seemingly unending Aenean Ocean. Those who have been blessed typically reside nearby, and now maintain and guard the temple of the crown.

Cool article. I really liked the ideas of healing pools, I may have to add some to my world in the future. I wonder if any settlements have sprung nearby in order to supply resources for the travelers or to profit from them, and if so what political intrigue may be lurking in the background.
