Order of Antiquity
An order within the Church of Gilmithien which specializes in researching and exploring ancient ruins. The order is primarily comprised of clerics, although they are typically accompanied by wizards and rangers with similar inclinations.
The order was founded long after the church, after a particular shift in philosophy by a group of Gilmithien priests who rekindled their fondness for history of the continent. Instead of kindling new ideas, their goals are to research and learn the ways of the foregone past, particularly within the realms of the elves. Study of ancient texts, exploration of ruins, and deciphering cryptic arcana is critical to the basis of the order. Divine and arcane artefacts are highly sought after, for they represent the true origin of power and lore. When an artefact is discovered, it will sometimes be studied and examined for years by the priests of the order.
Priesthood
Unlike the priests within the church with their scholarly vestments and elegant apparel, the priests within the Order of Antiquity wear more practical garb featuring belts, satchels, and cloaks to protect them from the elements. They wear fawn colored vestments, with olivine embroidery. Most of their apparel and banners display the insignia of a lit brazier.
Because it is a sect within a broader church, the priests have to elect to become part of the order and dedicate their service to the perseverance of the ancient world. They maintain a healthy balance of clerics who specialize in both the Knowledge and Arcana domains. Many within the order are quirky, and have spent most of their adult lives in dimly lit tombs. They are not known for their loquaciousness, save for topics surrounding ancient lore, when their capacity for conversation can be limitless. Although they maintain residence within the Great Temple of Gilmithien, most of the time they reside within the ruins they are currently exploring.
