Overview:

He was the Lord of the Star Court, and an accomplished magician or trickster. At his side, numerous An Sidhe lords joined his Court, and counselled him on many matters. He was told to cause illusions and lose his enemies in the layers of marshlands that surrounded his grand capital. Many lachlanna claim he was the only of his Court who could 'speak to the stars', and thus communicated their will to his people. We are given the names of the Sidhe lords that had joined his court, to whom he assumedly delegated positions of power. According to the Lachlanna, the Chanter - otherwise known as the Fool - was worshipped by placing remains of food at one's doorstep, to let him and his heroic retinue feast as they stalked through the lands.

Of His Titles and Interpretations:

Lord of the Stars:

It is believed that the Chanter may have been the elves' god of the stars, or starlight. Many engravings refer to him as a 'starspeaker', and according to the Spakeheart Lodge much of the arcane has to do with the movement and position of astral bodies (though they would not wish to elaborate further), as such historians and Astòr trying to recover knowledge of the ancient world can safely assume he was some kind of arcanist, or magician.

Lord of the Sidhe:

Sidhe are a reclusive folk and as such it is difficult to attest this. Suffice to say there are numerous records that claim "lords of the sidhe sojourned at his court and counselled him on many matters." We must thus presume that he was either a major figure amongst these mysterious folks, or some form of monarch. A few crumbled murals show him followed by or attending Court, as if debating with sidhe, who are characteristically depicted with insect wings. Some sidhe lords are also shown as "loyal to the Lord of the Stars", kneeling to him in obedience.

Master of Myths:

It is theorized that the Chanter was also an accomplished storyteller and weaver of legends. Indeed he is often depicted speaking out to crowds, and his speech is engraved as runes or ogham much resembling the writing and incantations of druids. Boars, ravens, and hounds are born from his words in many elven engravings. The animals may be literal or metaphoric creations of his voice. Whichever is accurate, people have attributed him to being the master of myths, a title granted to great bards and storytellers around Aedelwynn. Otherfolk keep by his lachlanna and give offerings of hospitality to ensure a good night and protection to all who stay within the standing stone's influence.

'The Fool':

What the Otherfolk do know of the Chanter is that he was also a trickster deity, willing to cover himself in illusions and phantasm. We have surviving folk tales of him helping young elves survive the night by deceiving their pursuers or assailants, using various animal skins or sounds to do so. Many believe he may also be a shapeshifter, capable of changing forms at his leisure. At first, the animals on the Lachlanna attributed to him were considered to be those shapes and animal forms, but were later confirmed to be spirits of Fire. We must thus assume he was also a fire deity or had some kind of relationship flames.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Depictions:

The Chanter is often depicted as a hooded elf, whose visage cannot be seen and whose cloak is covered in stars and patches. He sometimes presents a burning bowl, a star spangled sword or a walking staff in both hands. More often than not, he is surrounded by depictions of the spirits of the Raven, Boar and Hound, running after one another around him. All of these depictions have been found engraved on Lachlanna, with the Fool's name carved around his head like a halo. Constellations can be sometimes found carved at his feet, and there will always be an offering bowl made from bronze at the food of every of his Lachlanna.
