Humans

An Excerpt From The Diversity of Species

"There is a reason that the famousest of wizards have all been humans, my boy. We have something that those other species just don't have. Curiosity. Yes, the elves have their mind control, and the dwarves their forges, and the goblins their flames, but we humans have the ability to adapt. To take a perplexing situation and make of it something beautiful, something amazing; that is what it means to be human.
— Logan "Big Hat" Gilberteth, High Wyzard of the Gray Hand
Humans are as varied and nuanced as one might expect from such a short lived species. Despite the myriad differences among them, all humans share a zeal and adaptability that is simply unheard of among the longer lived species of Aedeva.

Culture

By and large, humans of Aedeva are zealous. The target of their zeal varies from culture to culture, often influenced by other nearby cultures, but humanity inevitably leaves its mark wherever it goes. Most of the world's conquerors and heroes have been human, as have many of the world's activists and innovators.

Magic

Because of their relatively short lives, humans who truly master arcane magic are rare. It is not uncommon for a human to go their whole life without using arcane magic at all, and humans within arcane universities are often seen as novelties by the other students and faculty. Nonetheless, a human who turns their zeal toward magic will usually end up as one of the world's leading mages. Many of the most common or famous spells were invented by human wizards.   Divine magic is another story entirely. Their natural zeal combined with their short lives make humans ideal candidates for clerical and paladin orders. Human vampire hunters are some of the most loved (or feared) that Aedeva has to offer. And when a human order of paladins declares a crusade, entire species may go extinct.

Religion

Humanity is naturally drawn toward religions that emphasize fervor and creativity. Though they might be found in the clergy of any religion, Faith of the Burning Crown's has always had a particularly large number of human clergy. The faith's emphasis on zealously eradicating darkness and fighting for the light appeals to humanity's need for adventure and excitement, and Cir has always been a fan of the species' enthusiasm and impulsiveness.

Adventurers

Their ability to adapt to any environment and their natural wanderlust make humans fantastic adventurers. Rare is the adventuring party that does not contain at least one human.   Because they are so pervasive throughout Aedeva, humans are a significant part of most cultures.
