Shipboard Roles

  Role Details Treasury Die: 1d4
Because ship things are EXPENSIVE, and the treasury is in a constant state of change (with purchases and sellings) the ship has its own treasury. When desiring to make a ship purchase (for example, new weapons, extensive repairs, crewmen, etc.), the purchaser rolls the Treasury Die against a DC from 1 to 12 that represents the expense category of the item. If the Treasury Check is a success, then there is plenty of money in the treasury for the item. If it is a failure, then the purchase manages to make a dent in the treasury, reducing the treasury die by one step (see below). Either way, the item is successfully purchased.

1d2 Repair a ballista or hire a specialist for a journey (such as a Wind Listener to help avoid storms).
1d4 Hire a new junior officer for the crew or hire a few ABS or purchase a Shipboard Ballista.
1d6 Purchase magical shipboard equipment (such as a Shipboard Force Missiler) or hire a new senior officer.
1d8 Repair significant hull damage or refurbish/remodel the ship.
1d10 Repair severe hull damage or purchase powerful shipboardmagical equipment.
1d12 Purchase a new ship.
 

Captain

Elected by the crew, the captain is responsible for directing the crew during combat or other trying events.

Quartermaster

Also elected by the crew. Responsible for managing the day to day details of pirating. The quartermaster rules the ship as a practical matter. The captain may command during battle and choose the missions the crew goes on, but the quartermaster is in charge of everything else.
Current Holder: Sidney 'Jagged' Carmine (gnome with all jagged teeth who is allergic to the smell of brine)

Sailmaster

In charge of navigation and maps.

The carpenter responsible for repairing and maintaining the boat, dropping/weighing the anchor, handling the sails, and making sure nobody breaks the ship.
Current Holder: Hilton 'Mumbler' Newberry (human female who does not realize she is mumbling all the time and is missing both ring fingers, nobody knows why)

Surgeon

Responsible for trying to prevent death.
Current Holder: Fenwick 'Vulture' Harding (kenku who squacks at people to use his "echo location" and color pattern makes no sense at all)
