Lewinholdt

Lewinholdt, also known as the Sister City of the Coin, is one of the three Sister Cities of Alverholdt. In recent times, the city has expanded massively from a small fishing village to a larger city due to the influence of the Golden Gun who reside there. Although it is the weakest of the three cities in terms of population, Lewinholdt punches above it's weight as it has the ability to fluctuate the trade if it needs too. A running theme between the three Sister Cities competing for any title is present, as   With word that gold has been found in the Liew River off the southern border of the city, people have travelled to Lewinholdt in droves to make a fortune within the city, whether it be by finding gold or setting up business. In the span of a couple decades, Lewinholdt has grown from a small fishing village to a large city due to everything going in their favor. However, with the rise of Golden Hunters, more and more the city falls into the same problems Alverholdt has. Thugs, thieves, and a strong criminal underbelly have begun to take root within Lewinholdt.

Demographics

The Demographic make up of Lewinholdt is the following:
  • Humans, Gnomes, and Elves make up a majority of the population.
  • Halfling, Dwarves, Half-Elves, Half-Orcs, Tritons, Dragonborn and T'Chai make up the minority population within the city.
Special Enclaves:
  • To the south of the city, there is a special ward within the city called the Golden Cabins, named after the cabins that the Golden Hunters created south of the city. There is a wide variety of people from all walks of life in that part of the city trying to make it big and profit off the Gold Rush. Also coincidentally enough, the Golden Guns are established here as well, as they are seen as the "enforcement" within the city.

Government

Lewinholdt is ran by a group of influential fishermen turned Merchants that originally founded Lewinholdt ages before the Kingdom of Dumont incorporated the area. Not wanting to aggravate the Merchants, they allowed them to form a council and run the city the way they want. As such, the Merchants formed a Council consisting of the wealthy fishing families within the city. There are 9 Merchants on the Council, and every 5 years, they vote on who they want as the next Merchant Prince. Currently, the Merchant Prince in power is Illisar (LN Human M), a laissez-faire Prince who is currently letting the city develop without his influence. He has 2 years until he is voted out and another Merchant Prince is elected. The Merchant Prince can only have a maximum of one term.   Each Merchant Prince can dictate the laws within Lewinholdt during their term. Other than that, the other Merchant Princes within the council have a right to deny any motion the Merchant Prince creates as long as they can get above a 50% majority. Each Merchant can also come forth with their own decree, law or order and as long as they can get a simple majority, their act passes through.   While the Golden Guns indeed have a presence in the city of Lewinholdt, unlike Alverholdt while the King was away, they have next to no power in the city. That is one of the consistent themes within the city, that despite having faction bases within the city, they are neutral to their affairs and only serve the King and the Kingdom.

Defences

Walls were built around Lewinholdt just recently, as much as 10 years ago. As such, the walls are patrolled and defended by ballista and guardsmen. The Liew River to the South forms a natural barrier, but due to the importance of the River, it is also heavily guarded by both the King's Watch and the Golden Guns alike. The Bridge crossing the Liew is also defended as well by King's Watch and caravans going through the bridge have to pay a tolls (depending on what they're carrying) and are checked for illicit goods and contraband.

Industry & Trade

The biggest industry in Lewinholdt is the fishing industry. Going back to Lewinholdt's older days where it was just a fishing village, that tradition hasn't died. Especially lately, with the rise of storms and the subsequent Crimson Crabs, which are a delicacy to people in Lewinholdt and abroad, the fishing industry has never been more prominent in the cities' history. This goes hand in hand with the growing shipping industry, with more and more ships being made and assembled in Lewinholdt as well.   The second biggest industry within Lewinholdt would be the minting of currency, thanks to the Golden Guns, which are settled in the Golden Cabins special ward. Due to the Gold Rush, the Golden Guns saw the opportunity to use the Liew River as their new mint to form the new coins that help with the economy of the Veilnum.

Infrastructure

A lot of the people within Lewinholdt make use of the Liew River, whether that be acquire gold or use it for watermills for power. The Liew River is the life of the city and without it the city would crumble to nothing. Over time, as the city has grown and has built up. The dirt roads were cobbled as people moved in and the city's borders extended Eastward. Unlike Alverholdt, the city has room to expand and as such is a lot flatter than Alverholdt, which has had to build up because of the Yuleski Mountain Range hugging the city's borders. There are massive shipyards within the dockyard of the city as well almost being able to compete with Alverholdt.

Assets

Areas within Lewinholdt:
  • The Dockyards - The Dockyards within Alverholdt where the ships are made, held and stored. A combination of the dockyards and the shipyards where they are made, the smell of lacquer overwhelms those that are not used to the smell.
Buildings Within Lewinholdt:
  • The Hull's Grit - A seedy bar and tavern located right off the docks of Lewinholdt. Has a reputation to not be a good place, but a cheap place to sleep regardless.
  • The Gallant Navigator - A nice Inn and Tavern which attracts the more "hoity toity" folk of Lewinholdt. Named after the owners son who went to sail the world and navigate the seas. While it might be more expensive, the food and the beds are good enough to make that pay worthwhile.

Guilds and Factions

Ever since the discovery of Gold within the Liew River, the Golden Guild has been taking more and more of an interest in the once small fishing village. Residing in the Golden Cabins district, the Golden Guns have created many small mints which they have used to produce the Coins for the Veilnum. The Golden Guns within Lewinholdt are led by the strict and stern Shiazmar (CN Tabaxi F), who's been trying to whip the Golden Cabins into shape. They often butt heads with the Merchant Council and the King's Watch, but they both agree it's not worth it to start conflict as the Golden Guns make the mint and keep the problem with the Cabins under wraps and the Merchant Prince doesn't see it as advantageous.   The other faction within Lewinholdt has slowly been rising, known as the Pettys. After recently being kicked out of Alverholdt, they slowly made their way to Lewinholdt amidst the Gold Rush and have taken control of the criminal underbelly. Unlike the Petty's in Alverholdt who were incompetent, these Petty's had to be smart to avoid detection by the smart and alert Shiazmar. As such, they have formed a large criminal underbelly within the city that has slowly begun to exert it's influence to undermine the gold production by the Golden Guns.

Geography

Lewinholdt was settled where it currently is because of the Liew River, which formed from centuries of run off from the Yuleski Mountain Range. Alverholdt naturally became a hub of trade within the Greater Bay of Dumont as the Liew River is very rich in minerals and ores. The area is now one of the main hubs of the Golden Guns as they have taken advantage of the amount of gold hidden deep within the Liew River.   Most of Lewinholdt is flat, with the given hill for defense. There is also a distinct lack of trees within the city, as the geography transitions from Forests up north to plain around where Lewinholdt is formed.

Natural Resources

In Lewinholdt, one of the biggest available resources is the amount of fish the city catches within the Greater Bay of Dumont and the Liew River. Specifically the Goldenback Bass and the Crimson Crab are two very popular species within the nearby waters that the citizens of Lewinholdt view in high regards. Also from the Liew River, there is a small chance where Gold can be found, which led to a large influx of citizens going to Lewinholdt to strike it rich.
