Nova Venir
Port Venir, previously known as Visch has had a troubled history within the Kingdom of Dumont. Visch, after the fall of Vhana suffered from collapse after an influx of civilians. These citizens came from the from the original Port Venir, which was burnt to cinders by the Crimson Phoenix in 1470.
Visch was mainly an Orcish village, but after the influx of Evetics and Civilians from Port Venir, the village collapsed, as it couldn't handle the amount of refugees coming in. Visch essentially rebuilt itself from the ground up, renamed itself to Nova Venir (or Port Venir, both are interchangeable) and rebuilt the village into a somewhat thriving city.
Demographics
The Demographics of Nova Venir is the following:
- Humans, Orcs, and Half-Orcs make up a majority of the population.
- Halfling and Gnomes make up the minority population within the town. There are also handful of Elves, Half-Elves, Dragonborn, Dwarves and a couple of Goblinoids in the town as well.
- Many of the citizens within Nova Venir are citizens or the descendants of the original settlers of Port Venir, which was taken over and burned to the ground by the Crimson Phoenix.
- There is a big population of Half-Orcs within the city of Nova Venir. This is because of the people within Nova Venir began reproducing with the villagers of Visch, which was mainly an Orcish settlement.
Government
The town of Nova Venir, like all of the cities within the Kingdom of Dumont have high amounts of autonomy. While they do pay taxes to the King and the Kingdom, the city of Venir is ran by a bicameral legislature, similar to that as a Parliament or Congress of the U.K. or the U.S. However, unlike those governments, these houses are equal in power.
The two houses are made up of the elected senators of the original Port Venir, while the other house is made up of the Orcish settlers from Visch. Each house can propose a motion for the city, and they must both have a 50% majority to pass an act. The two houses work hand in hand to better the city.
Defences
Nova Venir is a very defensible town. Despite being on the smaller side, the people from Port Venir still feel the pain of losing their original city. As such, they want to ensure that their new home also can't be destroyed. The people of Nova Venir also have key insider information on how the Crimson Phoenix fight, which not a lot of people have knowledge on.
If the city were to be under attack from the North, South or West, what the defenders of Nova Venir have invented is this sort of paste, which they drop onto the walls of the city. This paste is both sticky as well as fire retardant to ensure the walls can't be blown up by Crimson Phoenix "Suiciders". This paste could be used on the docks too, as it can cause ruptures in ships if placed properly on rocks in the docking area.
The city has also placed many vents on their docks to rush sewer water out of the sewers and flood the port as a last resort. This is done through magical needs, as the tides of the water are shifted with orbs enchanted with the gust of wind spell to keep the water moving.
Industry & Trade
Nova Venir is a key area of trade within the Kingdom of Dumont. Some experts even argue that Nova Venir might take over Lewinholdt as Sister of the Coin once the gold from the Liew River dries up. This is because of the vast amount of technological property that the town has created. This technology, like the fire retardant paste or the enchanted orbs fetch a pretty penny for the right buyer, and as such, trade in the city is uniquely done through technology and information rather than actual goods.
Infrastructure
A lot of the infrastructure in Nova Venir has been built from the ground up. The Orcs lived in tents and huts, and when the refugees came over, they had to restart from the beginning. Because of that, Nova Venir was put in the optimal position to grow and expand.
The Industrial sector of Venir has been booming in recent years, as the Gnomish tinkerers and inventors of the city work well with the Orcish craftsmen. The Congress decided it would be a smart idea to create an Institute to spark that inventive interest and ever since Nova Venir has been the grounds for innovation and creation within the Kingdom and the Veilnum.
Assets
As stated before, Nova Venir has a lot to offer the Kingdom of Dumont. As the center for innovation and technology, these inventions slowly make their way up to Alverholdt. This makes Port Venir a valuable asset for diplomacy and trade with foreign nations, as they technological property and capital is valuable to many nations around the world.
