Dragonborn

Powerful, Proud, Greedy, Vain, Arrogant.   The dragonborn is a race defined by its flaws. Their powerful build and natural talents given to them by their draconic ancestry elevates them above most mortal races in terms of natural ability, a fact that together with their predisposition for draconic arrogance has led to most dragonborn acting with an air of superiority when interacting with the other civilized races as well as a very one-sided generational game of one-upsmanship as few grand monuments of edifices get to remain the grandest for long before the dragonborn create an even grander edifice of their own, perhaps to show the world that anything men, elves or dwarves can create, the dragonborn can make and better.   This stance has been the spark of no small number of conflicts over the years, particularly when the dragonborn prove unable to surpass the creations of the other races, such instances often leading to increasingly aggressive attempts to acquire whatever creation or edifice that is beyond them, whether through diplomatic, monetary or military means.   Dragonborn are scattered across the old world, forming small walled communities within most centers of civilization, with the vast walled city of Old Draconia serving as the center of governance for the fractious people, ruled by the council of colours, a republic where each of the chromatic, metallic and gemstone scales get a single representative to speak before the council of scales to decide the course of their species. Though often as fractious as the dragonborn themselves, the council does on occasion come to swift and unanimous decision, the founding of New Draconia on the shores of Aelcantar to represent dragonborn interests and to show all the other upstart races how it should be done and done right.
The average Dragonborn lives for up to a century and stands between six to seven feet tall, covered in tough scales ranging from the deepest black to shining gold and every colour in between. The colour of their scales has a large bearing on the temperament of an individual and is a constant source of conflict among Dragonborn society.
The exact origin of the dragonborn is long lost to the sands of time, but many historians believe they are either the distant offspring of dragons, draconic blood diluted by countless generations of interbreeding with other races, or a direct creation of dragons to be their servants when the scaled tyrants still ruled the world millennia ago.
