Ouvis

The church of Ouvis is both large and widespread. In civilized lands its rare that one can't find the domed roof of at least a small chapel to Ouvis in even the smallest of village. In fact, it might be easier to find temples dedicated to Ouvis in smaller settlements as he plays a more central role in agriculture than any urban lifestyle. In larger cities, temples to Ouvis often double as hospitals, libraries or both.   Though part of the Triune and accepting the authority of the pope, the clergy of Ouvis are largely decentralized, each pastor, priest and bishop tending to their own congregations autonomously and independently. Only rarely is a great conclave called to vote on some matter important to the faith or call a crusade on some hated foe. The last such conclave was one hundred and twenty years ago, when all the three churches of the Triune united in the last crusade to wipe orcs from existence once and for all.   On Aelcantar the church of Ouvis has struggled to gain a proper foothold compared to its brethren cults of Eremat and Vidius, as agriculture and learning are distant seconds to conquest, plunder and exploitation. As such, while most civilized cities has a small chapel to ouvis somewhere in the outskirts, Starfall City hosts the only cathedral to Ouvis in the new world, the vast library-temple where the black robed clerics of Ouvis pay adventurers handsomely to deliver found tomes, documents, scrolls and other bits of lore collected from the new world.   The clergy of Ouvis dress in simple black robes, with the Ankh symbol of their god hanging on a chain around their neck. Gaudy and needlessly expensive accoutrements are seen as wasteful and tasteless. The militant arm of the church, the Lifewardens, wear plain heavy armour emblazoned with the Ankh of Ouvis, and wield large war maces, largely for the historical significance the weapon carries as the primary tool to combat the lich-kings of ages past.
