Ruinport

Ruinport is a small settlement that exists solely to cater to adventurers heading to one of the two local dungeons that it is founded between. Despite its small population it hosts a dizzying array of merchants, mercenaries and taverns, all of which are ruinously expensive so as to scam as much gold as possible from would-be-adventurers heading off to either of the incredibly dangerous dungeons nearby. Since most don't make it back alive, the settlement also has a considerable population of cutthroats and corpse-robbers who make a living off robbing adventurers, alive or dead, to take their bought goods back to town to be resold again to the next batch of adventurers.   Given the hodgepodge multicultural nature of the city, it is perhaps no surprise that it is constructed in an eclectic fashion with a dozen different architectural styles melding together into something uniquely cosmopolitan despite being one of the relatively smaller settlements on the continent. Squat, robust dwarven structures of stone stand shoulder to shoulder with grand soaring ornate towers of dragonborn design. Near invisible doorways to furtive halfling burrows open unobtrusively in the alleyways between sweeping wooden structures of elegant elvish design. A riot of colourful banners and pennants flap in the breeze, displaying every symbol of nationality and deity imaginable, lit up by a mix of torches, magelights and paper lanterns.
