Personal history

Born in the Sokoly capital of Orozred, Piotyr August Jarząbek is the golden child of a storied family of Sokoly military men. Piotyr's father and grandfather were each accomplished soldiers and nobles at court. His great-grandfather was Tytuz Jarząbek, the Voivode of Vranea and the source of much of the city's prominence today. Through Tytuz's sister Daura, Piotyr has a familial connection to the prominent Maurek family as Daura was the notoriously strong-willed mother of one Grand Marshal Kazimier Maurek, the father of Kraul Maremir Janek. Jarząbek is the foremost name of a new generation of Sokoly nobles that came to age soon after the overthrow of the hated Ciezkin and their Despot Valentyn the Cruel and victory in the Sokoly War of Freedom. This harsh period of fighting made the next generation exceptionally adept in conflict and warfare, a fact made clear by the prowess of Jarząbek. Piotyr gained prominence in the Orozred court as a personal favorite of Kraul Orbanik who watched Jarząbek's career with great interest. In jousts, Piotyr excelled and showed great skill in riding and a wide array of skills like logistics, strategy, and personal combat talents like horseback archery, polearms, and with the saber. Jarząbek was eventually given the command of the cavalry of Kharlyk, a unit considered the best cavalry in the region. Under Jarząbek, the Kharlyk riders came to revolutionize tactics for the Sokoly as lightning-quick attacks and retreats just as fast came to dominate the movements of this unit under Jarząbek. Marshal Jarząbek and his men had their first test in the war against the Ciezkins and they proved an invaluable scouting force and a terror on supply and famously proved decisive at the Battle of Zolec where they crippled the notoriously hardened Ciezkin Dzveruk infantry which they later mopped up in the retreat.

Since Zolec, Jarząbek has only risen in the world, married to Kalina Janek, the sister of crowned Kraul Maremir "Strazny". Initially, both were weary of marriage with such clear implications, however when they first met the tension of their union quickly dissolved and they grew to trust and love one another. Within a year and a half of their union, Kalina had given birth to their first child, a daughter named Daura, named for the ancestor who's ties bound both families to each other. Maremir, another prominent figure and highly ambitious man with a wide array of talents has proven to be a dangerous ruler for those surrounding Orozred as his plans of aggressive expansion are no secret. Under Maremir, Jarząbek has been a key advisor and newly promoted Grand Marshal, the seniormost commander of the growing Orozred juggernaut. Jarząbek's promotion drew the ire of the notoriously fiery Marshal Durad Tovkar "The Bear" who has become a pain in Jarząbek's side as he has proven unwilling to bend to Piotyr's command and routinely undermines his authority and reaches the Kraul for his orders. Jarząbek has become infamous for his seasonal raids and destructive campaigns against the enemies of Maremir and Orozred. These seasonal raids have earned him the epithet Upiór or "The Phantom" in Sokolic, so named for his tendency to quickly appear in a territory, ride through destroying and looting before promptly disappearing like he and his men were never there. It was Jarząbek and his cavalry core that led the charge in the destruction of Svevarosk which paved the way for the conquest of the Kovna states of Kizwalka and Siliza and their introduction to the ever-growing Orozred war machine. Now Sokoly horses are matched with Kovna pikes to create a deadly combination for those in the way of Jarząbek and his ruler's dreams.

Religious Views

Considered a cynic by more devoted believers in Paren, the patron of the Sokoly and a major deity to the wider Prus people, Jarząbek seems to put more of his belief in the tangible that he sees in front of him rather than the whims of a poorly understood and purposefully vague personification of the sky father Paren.

Social Aptitude

Jarząbek is everything that makes a commander great, patient, composed, and highly creative. With a tendency to underestimate his opponent, a trait he is aware of, Jarząbek is suspicious by nature and a skeptic at heart with little tolerance for lies and backstabbing. In court, Jarząbek is quiet, soft-spoken, and speaks with direction and purpose in everything he does. On the field, he is loud, direct, and never one to flinch from his responsibilities to his men and his people.

Speech

Jarząbek can sometimes appear condescending and even accusatory, he engages in conversation just as he would a battle, with probing questions and misdirections being hallmarks of one's conversation with the marshal.

History

The marriage between Kalina Janek and Grand Marshal Piotyr Jarząbek could have been simply a tie made between the newly appointed seniormost military figure in the kingdom and the always paranoid Kraul who needed a trusted confidant. The love shown between Kalina and her husband is something akin to that of a fairy tale, an innocent and good princess marries the rugged and tough military man and warms his cold heart.

History

Brothers in arms, the Jarząbek brothers are nearly one and the same. Both Piotyr and Aleks come from a storied martial house and have done everything to prove their pedigree. While Piotyr has proven himself as Grand Marshal of the kingdom, Aleks has done quite well for himself both domestically and abroad as he nips at Piotyr's heels.
