Personal history

Svakaðr the Dark One is among the greatest of the giants and perhaps the best warrior to come of the loins of Aurelmir. When the giant was still quite young, many would mock him, saying that he would first find his lover, find his foe, find his fire, and finally find his destiny. This was seemingly a prophecy predicting the entirety of Svakaðr's life and seeming destiny to ever endure pain, hardship, and sorrow. Svakaðr's love would be the goddess Irea, daughter of Hemalla and Seikr, famously her second husband. For by her first husband, Hemalla would sire her first child, so named Amaretzen who would long trouble the world with the burning soul which was his namesake.   Svakaðr and Irea were a couple very much frowned upon by the family of Irea as she was seen as one of the most desirable among the gods and Svakaðr as an ugly, brute but to whom Irea was infatuated with and in turn, Svakaðr proved an impeccably kind and loyal husband. Together the pair would be enamored with each other and none were irked as mightily as Irea's half-brother Amaretzen, now called Timur, who one day challenged his brother-in-law to a wrestling match to which Svakaðr agreed. Timur however, did not wish to spar with the giant, he wished to kill him and as such when Svakaðr had his guard down, Timur is said to have laid upon him and broken his neck, seemingly killing the giant. Overcome with grief, Irea lay at the body of her husband and is said to have used some arcane magic to keep him alive at any cost, the cost it seemed that the two lovers would never again be able to touch one another as Irea was cast to the deep sea and Svakaðr was forbidden to ever step foot in the ocean.   Sorrow for Svakaðr turned to a forever cloudy rage and a need for revenge so he vowed to forever hunt down Timur and one day slay him. This would begin the eternal clash between the two former in-laws and despite all his rage, Svakaðr would never prove the Aleuai's equal, his soul continuing to be denied death and returning to anguish in the world of the living. Yet events would transpire for both which would evolve their clash, as Timur came to be outcast and thrown to the pits of Vuhkalin for his kinslaying of his half-brother Lorat, dreams would begin in the mind of Svakaðr as he lay amidst the cold caverns of the vast Black Mountains of Iola.   Images in his mind of a vast darkness, where once appeared nothing, as Svakaðr in his mind gazed deeper he saw them writhing and struggling in the dark. Visions of the Gehn, of the monsters who once dwelled endlessly amid the cosmos before it began. And as it appeared they were made aware of his presence, as fish in a pond spotting ripples upon the surface, a great light appeared and blinding as it shone. There Svakaðr saw at its center a figure adorned with light, white hot and blazing from the brow and wielded was a great blade of heat and flame. Svakaðr saw this figure emerge and sprout up, growing and becoming so immense he felt unseen. And in a flash, a blinding flash lasting mere moments to him, all around him was awash in light and sound, where darkness was now lit and in sight. Yet the figure remained, and Svakaðr felt eyes peering at him, piercing him and measuring him. Once more his vision blurred, his hearing diminished and Svakaðr could feel himself awakening. And as he was to rise, he heard a voice quiet, nearly incomprehensible yet clear were only these words, "Very well" and at this, Svakaðr awoke. At his side he saw a sight startling to him, there sat a newly furnished blade still smoking as if it had only now emerged from the fire. And as Svakaðr grasped it in his hands it ignited anew, its flames tore and crackled through the air, but he did not feel any pain. This was the Elder Steel, a sword unlike any other, gifted it seemed from some far-off place in the muddled memory of a dream.   These days, Svakaðr is a recluse, in his winding lair beneath the imposing Black Mountains of Iola, the spindly old giant works night and day sharpening his blade, imagining the sight of it running with Timur's blood. The giant has made his presence known to the nearby Rókuri inhabitants who every so often sing a few praises in the direction of the mountains in hoping he hears. Even now, on a quiet day, one can still hear the soft groan of the mountains, as the echo of Svakaðr's sharpening and grinding of his great blade seeps from caverns and caves.

Personality Quirks

Having returned from death many times, Svakaðr has difficulty speaking, prone to frequent bits of stuttering, muttering, and deranged bouts of laughter and crying. Where words can be said, Svakaðr frequently avoids speaking all together. This has caused a violent and ill temper to come over him many times, making him dangerous to others.

Husband of Irea
Brother in law of Timur

Social Aptitude

Known in the sagas as a soft-spoken, kind, and respectful giant deeply in love with his wife and a loyal supporter of the gods. After his cursing and first death, he withdrew his support of the gods for standing by as one of their own murdered him and withdrew to exile in the Black Mountains where it's said that volcanoes erupt as a result of Svakaðr's sword being swung in rage in the volcano's base. Where once was a kind giant, now a vengeful, spiteful, and very angry giant resides in isolation and willing solitude.

Speech

Svakaðr's voice is described as very deep, like the bellowing of a great beast, and when speaking he occasionally replaces words with grunts or groans as it seems gathering words and speaking them have become very difficult for a mind who has so often traveled to the underworld and returned.
