Personal history
Grim, iron-willed, and silent, this is the god Veidr, the lord of the untamed wilds, of justice, and some say of vengeance. Born after his twin sister Hemalla, Veidr was an unexpected child and misshapen, thus his father Rymr threw him from the pinnacle of his abode of Balihan. Veidr however, now lame, returned to the hall of his father, limping ever since. Veidr is the black sheep of his family, in the eyes of his hated father he was always lesser compared to Hemalla, whom Rymr loved the most. Yet so, in later years, Veidr would again be usurped by his own half-brother, the Iolan hero Varangr, whose mother Faeda, Rymr came to love deeply. Veidr came to live to resent his father and came to make his abode in the untamed wildlands, a part of the domain of his all-powerful uncle Ranir. Ranir brought Veidr to him, and despite the inability or unwillingness of Veidr to speak, he sought deeply to win the approval of his uncle through eager learning and attentiveness to the teachings of Ranir. Veidr's attentiveness seemed to bring about a relishing in Ranir who thoroughly enjoyed the company of his silent nephew. Ranir found no joy in the time spent among his own siblings and he sought out the company of his kinsmen to contrast this. However, the time between the two came to shorten as Veidr came to be thoroughly jealous as Ranir's attention came to Timur, Veidr's nephew by his twin sister. Seeing no outlet for his anger, Veidr completely retreated into the wilderness and established himself as a recluse, much like his aunt Noba, who is said to have been the model for Veidr's new life.
Veidr was very different, he was absolutely stoic in all things, he spoke in gesture and hand signs, something he would pass on to mankind, especially for those robbed of speech. Veidr seemed to hold a special love of humans, especially those deemed sick, unloved, and uncared for. Veidr's love of the wilds and his respect and admiration for giants in particular earned him the ire of his kin. Veidr was a known friend of the Jotnar, and he aided his uncle Ranir in hiding populations of their kind during their culling by Veidr's father. Veidr also learned much in the world of man, as he seemed to father many great sons and daughters with numerous partners. He lived in the manner of a man, deep in the wilderness, in a thick grove, with nothing indicating it to be the home of a god.
Veidr's domains, those of justice and the wild, seem to come from his innate sense of duty in overseeing mankind and the animals of the wide world. His love of the wilderness seems obvious, as he made his abode in the deepest and densest of groves. His last domain, that of vengeance is a bit strange and has been the source of the tense relationship between him and his father and uncle. These relationships are predicated on the prophecy made at VEidr's birth, that he will come riding on the back of a great and terrible beast, and slay a noble foe come the end of days. This noble foe is imagined to be the final foe of the gods and who will slay Ranir, and Rymr, and plunge the world into a cavalcade of despair and disorder. It is by Veidr's action, that the cosmos itself will not come to be destroyed, and the damage done can be mended and repaired. Both Ranir and Rymr seem to hold the idea that whether by his designs or not, Veidr will usurp their power from them and rule the cosmos in the aftermath of Dresirea. The distance between Veidr and his family can be seen with the assumption of himself as a wildcard, a swift hammer of vengeance who will bring the divine vengeance of the gods upon their enemy, albeit too late to save his uncle and father and prevent the collapse of the world as it is known.
