Stromgaard
An impressive stone bridge straddles the mighty river Ruin before you. Crammed between two huge gatehouses is town so tightly packed onto every available foot of the bridge that they seem to spill over the 6 foot thick walls which contain them.
Before the gatehouses is a sprawling mass of shabby buildings with plumes of industry bellowing forth. To the south, a huge square building bustling with stalls and boats straddles a huge fast-flowing river
Demographics
Mostly human city, elves and dwarves inhabit the wooden slums on the outskirts as with most cities in the Holy Ruven Empire.
Government
Duke Ulric is the lord. he keeps a petty council
Defences
a huge gatehouse at either end of the bridge and a keep that sits at the center of the bridge, blocking the entire width.
Industry & Trade
Stromgaard sits on the mighty River Ruin, it trades western hinter pines, large straight timbers values throughout the known world. most of the trade goes via the river via galleys and boats.
Guilds and Factions
the merchant guild has a strong presence in Stromgaard, the duke is often 'absent' from offical comings and going, so the bulk of the decision making falls upon the merchant lord.
there are minor rebel factions of elves in the shanty towns.
History
Stromgaard sits at a crucial juncture. it is the best way across the mighty river ruin for hundreds of miles. for this reason, it has been heavily fortified to protect against invading forces. it has not fallen to the enemy by force in hundreds of years, in the recent wars between the Holy Ruven Empire and Gallia it remained in Eutchmen hands throughout the conflict.
Architecture
thick, well build and sturdy stone structures built by the dwarves centuries ago in exchange for the right to lease land from the king. a privilege not extended to elves.
