Ruven is born

3000BF

It was the early years of the sickness of DERW ( Eternal oak ) and the emergence of the void born, the elves had not long known the other elder races and had only recently started arming themselves into militias to protect their boarders from random bestial incursions. Since the sickness had been discovered in DERW more and more creatures were found with unnatural mutations, magical scaring on their souls and a heightened levels of aggression. The gods had become withdrawn, apparently consumed with some internal dispute.

Suddenly the elves were painfully aware of their isolation. The winds of magic seemed stronger somehow and the light of the source within them burned more brightly, their personalities became more defined and uncompromising. But worst of all they felt something that they had never known before, for the first time they felt… fear.   It is the high elves who set the pieces in motion. Deep within the impassable mountains of Alwen they became troubled, they needed a solution to the sickness above all other concerns and with the gods no longer offering council of comfort they despaired, they were not content as the other elves were to consult the omens and wait for an opportunity to present itself.   One year on the outskirts of a small township a traveller named GWYNNE arrived on the estate of an incredibly wealthy bureaucrat called TARQUINN. Tarquinn was a politician of little renown or influence, and represented the region in the ruven senate. Amongst the heavenly groves and villas of his lands he sat and listened to the tales of this stranger who spun tales of distant lands full of untold wealth and wisdom, and so they struck a bargain.   In time, they became inseparable friends and allies, of course It helped that Gwynne’s knowledge of trade routes had increased the Senators wealth tenfold within years and with it his influence in the Senate. Time wore on and many great works were achieved by this fortuitous partnership, yet the attacks on their boarders continued to worsen until despair gripped the hearts of the senate. Gwynne counselled Tarquinn tirelessly, the pair became the architects of a great plan to protect their people and save the elven race… The high elves would need to unite under a strong and decisive leader to face this dark new world, the senate ruling a collection of divided city states was ill prepared for such adversity. But who would be best suited to such a role?   And so they plotted, sowing tales of TAR’QUINN’s legend and manifest destiny, he used his vast wealth to employ the realms best orators, bard and writers to spread stories of Tarquinns mighty, if not slightly factious deeds across the land. A private army was hired to bolster the defences of the outer reaches and convince any doubters of tarquinns glory. Eventually every city within the Alwen Mountains was under his influence, gone were the competing city senators that squabbled over taxation, philosophy and trade quotas.   The high elves of the Air caste were now united into a single political entity and far greater than the sum of their parts. A new senate was formed to help him rule over this vast territory, a senate with politicians who could be said to have certain ‘sympathies’ towards Taqrquinn, they quickly made him the first king of Ruven.   In honour of his Victory, GWYNNE the grand architect of Tar’quinn’s meteoric rise to power gifted him a crown made of pure brilliant light and to look upon it was to be in awe. Tarquinn was beyond overjoyed by this kingly gift and decreed that it would be a true heirloom of his line, and, true to his word it was passed down from ruler to ruler throughout the ages, But this was only the beginning…
