The Overmage

Considered by many to be the most powerful living practitioner of magic, Mortum is the Court Wizard of Ajax the Immortal. As the one responsible for raising Ajax's mighty fortress, the Korraj, into the skies, and for creating his fearsome War Breed legions, many whisper that Mortum's magic is as responsible for the Overlord's success as Ajax himself.
Fifty three years ago, Mortum's powers were put to the test during the fall of Castle Omund. Tasked with neutralizing Good King Omund's wizard, the Archmage Vitae, the pair engaged in an epic duel in the skies above King's Lake. Though the exact details of the battle are unclear even to historians, it was Mortum who emerged victorious - but not unscathed. Mortum was hideously scarred by Vitae's fire during the contest, and rumors persist that despite all of his magical power, the notoriously vain wizard has been unable to heal his wounds ever since.
Whether Vitae was killed during the battle or whether he escaped remains unknown; since that day, however, Mortum has styled himself Archmage, and none have dared challenge him for the title.
