Wyvern

Wyvern are species of flying lizards who can breath fire.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Large creatures, Wyvern can grow up to an average of 35 feet long with a wingspan to match. They have a triangular pointed head like that of a lizard with a mouth of sharp teeth. Two forelimbs are used to traverse the ground suprisingly quickly for thier size, and two massive wings give it access to flight. Their scales come in a miriad of colors making them a colorful species.

Biological Traits

In the mounth of a wyvern there are two glands that, like a snake, spit fliud; each glad shotting a different fluid which, when combined, combust into a jet of fire.

Genetics and Reproduction

Reproduce through female laid eggs fertilized by a male, then left high on the peaks of dormant volcanoes. When the volcanoes erupt enough heat is provided to the egg to wake the dragon and allow the newborn to break out of it's shell.

Growth Rate & Stages

Wyvern start out small, little more than the size of a rat, but grow rapidly, reaching thier full size in little more than four years after birth.

Behaviour

Wyverns are highly aggressive creatures and prone to attack even in unsafe situations.

Domestication

Unlike dragons, wyverns cannot be domesticated and ridden.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Wyverns can be found all over Aenia; in the north they stay close to the mountain ranges where they were born, however in the south, along with the various mountain habitats, they also inhabit a chain of islands off the southwest coarst known as the WInged Isles.
