Aerd

Created by

Welcome to Aerd, a continent on the brink of war! A century after a continent spanning conflict that ended with shattering of the sky itself, the Five Great Nations of Aerd are once again embroiled in tensions. Seemingly abandoned by the gods that once walked among them, the mortal races are poised to lash out at one another. It is apparent to everyone that Aerd is on a dangerous precipice, the likes of which it may never return from!
Capellia is a feudal human monarchy that was once a huge empire until the orcs broke it in half. It remains the primary military power of the region, although the loss of its colonies int the Far West means financial strains now sow dissonance between the nobility and the peasantry.   Dreaux is a human theocratic magocracy led by sorcerers with a history stretching back to the birth of the mortal races. A century ago, half the nation was devastated by a magical weapon, and since then the Mage Kings of Dreaux have outlawed "non-natural" mages, who they argue are stealing magic from the world.   Tieflings are primarily found in The Shattered Land. Formerly humans, elves, and Dwarves twisted by the chaotic energy unleashed when Eastern Dreaux was shattered and are seen as outsiders by the other races.   Dragonborn are primarily found in Antynyx. The one of the youngest rain of the mortal races, they originated from the spilled blood of the Everwyrm nearly 10,000 years ago. Slighted by their defeat in the Skybreaker Wars, their current parliament is a being threatened by the aggressive political faction known as the Chromatic Brotherhood.

High Elves are gregarious wizards and warriors, and are primarily found in the great forest nation of Áit Tanaí. Their capital is Cathsíoraí, also known as the Breathing Wood.   The elusive Wood Elves’ kingdom of Áit Scáth was decimated in the Skybreaker Wars, and the survivors have scattered to other nations as refugees. Some say that more still retreated to a different plane. The exiled elves called Drow lay in wait in the Far West for their chance to retake Áit Scáth, the shadow forest they once called home.   Dwarves are primarily found in immense underground nation of Gwerin. Previously an ancient kingdom, a peasant's revolt at the onset of the Skybreaker Wars led to the overthrow of the king and the institution of a collectivist government known as the Cymdeithas. Industrial to its core, Gwerin is leading the charge in the development of black powder weapons.   Orcs can be found in the OrkishceRache, a desert of their own making. On an unending crusade to free their god, Gruumsh, the orcs are often openly hostile against the surrounding kingdoms, though they are fiercely defensive of those they perceive as oppressed.

Halflings are primarily found in Brouwers, where they brew the finest beer and grow the finest pipeweed in Aerd. They have no official leader or borders and are politically isolated; economically, though, they will trade with any other race without prejudice.   Gnomes are a nomadic people without a homeland and are found throughout Aerd and the closest thing the gnomes have to a centralized national community is Gnommengarde, a gigantic mechanized vehicle/city that is primarily subterranean, but will surface for trade.   The Lands of Defiance to the southwest of Aerd are an archipelago of loosely allied islands. These islands are thought to be made of those who rejected the gods and were exiled and cursed. During the golden age of the Capellian Empire, the Lands of Defiance were the target of many adventuring campaigns and crusades. This is the homeland of many bestial races (ie. centaurs, lizardfolk, goblinoids, etc) although smaller populations can also be found scattered throughout Aerd as well.
