Purpose / Function

The mines were dug in order to be a source of iron mining. Beneath the forests of Frewen, the ground is rich with iron and them mines were a large source of income for the province of North arlen and to the kingdom in general.

Alterations

Long ago when the mines were first being dug, they did not go very deep, but over the years they dug deeper and deeper. Over the process of many, many years, they miners dug out areas for themselves to use as sleeping quarters and living spaces. Some of the miners took up full time residence living underground in the mines. It's been said that there were colonies of miners that wouldn't come to the surface for months at a time, and some even years. Eventually, the mines were shut down and slowly people began to abandon the mines. Over time, however, monsters began to take up residence in the lower levels of the mines. Today it's considered

Architecture

The abandoned iron mines lie underground beneath parts of The Northern Forest. They are multi-tiered and go very deep. Each level is almost a maze with all the different tunnels and sections and mine shafts. It can be easy to get lost. Monsters now inhabit the mines and some very dangerous ones dwell deep within the mines. Most mine shafts are held up by wooden trusses and some are decaying and even caved in. There are other areas that have mine cart tracks. Large areas have been dug out and can be quite expansive, and there are also areas with streams of water and even waterfalls from digging into an underground reservoir. The miners who once populated the mines dug out areas for them to sleep and eat as well, some of which are still intact with beds, tables, chests, and barrels.

History

The mines were a thriving business and community for many, many years. However, after the iron had been depleted, the miners abandoned it to dig a new mine further north. The mines are currently abandoned and in a state of decline.
