The Northern Forest

Story Relevance: The Northern Forest is home to Dyne and his grandfather. They are illegal fugitives from the Kingdom of Dalzenia and have built a log cabin in the woods. The woods is seen in the first scene of the game directly after the prologue. It is here that Arc and Finn race to find the woodsman’s ax and fight the tree monster. The next time the party ventures into the woods it is immediately after breaking out of prison and escaping the city. While in the woods, the party takes shelter in Dyne’s cottage and during that night, we are first introduced to Rael, the main antagonist of the story. The party then escapes into the abandoned iron mines underneath Dyne’s cottage.

Geography

The Northern Forest is abundant with mixed forest. Both pine and broadleaf trees fill this expansive forestland. There are many pathways that have been trodden by merchant carts, hunters, caravans, and pilgrims. As you travel north towards to northern tip of the continent, the forest becomes increasingly more and more just pine and evergreen trees. The climate is colder the further north you go and land becomes hillier as well. When you first enter the forest from the south, there are many pathways and creeks. As you walk further in the sides of the road turn into hills with the road in somewhat of a ravine. As you go deeper in there are larger ravines where creeks and small rivers run and the foliage gets thicker.

Fauna & Flora

Trees - Mixed temperate forest with everything from oak, elm, and spruce to evergreens. Plants - This woodland is unique for its fogberries, found only in other parts of Frewen and nowhere else in the world
Fauna - Some unique fauna in this woodland include nettlebacks, coranines, and river quill

Natural Resources

The forest's most abundant resource is, of course, wood. Second to that is its richness in iron. Beneath the forest lies a series of now abandoned iron mines.
