Yuan-ti

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

The Yaun-ti make up the cult of Apep.

Beauty Ideals

Snake features are idolized among the Yuan-ti.

Courtship Ideals

There is no real courtship among Yuan-ti as offspring are created in ritualistic orgies and each individual is expected to devote their entire life to serving Apep.

Relationship Ideals

Relationships are based mostly on whether or not a task can be better accomplished with the aid of another. Some Yuan-ti will find that they work particularly well together and form an agreement to complete tasks together, which is the closest most Yuan-ti ever get to a traditional relationship.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

The Yuan-ti live in a hierarchical society where one's position is based on how snake-like one's form is. The more snake the better. At the top is the high priest/priestess who passes down the words of Apep. At the bottom of the hierarchy are the slaves, made up of other races. Slightly above the slaves are the broodguards, humanoids given potions that make them unflinchingly loyal to the Yuan-ti and used to guard the Yuan-ti's eggs.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

If a Yuan-ti proves to be especially useful or dedicated to Apep then they can be rewarded by undergoing a ritual that changes their bodies and raises to the nest stage in the hierarchy.

History

One of the Yuan-ti human kingdom, when faced with the Incursion, fled into the depths of the Southern Jungles. There they found an ancient temple to the snake god Apep and prayed to it for protection. Apep agreed to grant them protection, but in exchange they had to pledge their lives and the lives of their decedents to the god. Over the intervening years the influence of Apep has changed the very physiology of the Yuan-ti until many of them are snake than human.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The Yuan-ti see all other races a lesser beings, useful only as slaves. The other races are, understandably, wary of them.
