An El'tessa and the Feathers of An'ki

The Great Stag, An El'tessa, was made by An'ki, an Avariel, as her tribute to both her aarakocran and elven ancestries.   Made of wood and polished by fey energies that give it a particularly otherwordly aura, the great stag easily reflects its affiliation with elven history. On the other hand, its aarakocran heritage is a far less obvious one, as the wings that originally adorned the sculpture to "tie the feywilds to the sky", as An'ki herself had said about it, are nowhere to be seen on the present day sculpture. This can be explained by how An El'tessa's creator designed what came to be know as "the feathers of An'ki".

The Feathers of An'ki

An'ki did not merely want to create a sculpture when she created the Great Stag. A skilled and patient enchantress as much as a talented sculptor, she imbued the feathers composing the wings of her masterwork with magic aimed to further bridge the ties between the sky and the rest of the world.   When she presented her work in all its winged glory, she also announced that she had imbued each and every feather from the wings with the magic of the flying spell, allowing anyone who carried one to fly. The feathers were never meant to be permanently attached to the sculpture, but borrowed by those who lacked wings to experience the magic of flight. Further enchantements made it so the feathers should be able to reassemble themselves to the main sculpture when brought back, but many were lost or are kept more or less permanently by some people, the stag remains feather-less. It has been mostly accepted among the visitors that the remaining feathers be kept in a locked chest beneath the stag's front legs to be available during events such as the Sky Festival.
