Jaich'iem Wastes

Whispers of Sand and Secrets

A harsh and unforgiving land, the Jaich'iem Wastes are a vast expanse of sand dunes, scorched plains, and jagged canyons. Towering, impassable mountains isolate the region, with the only known entrance being the heavily guarded Iron Gate controlled by the Sharapovan Empire. The merciless sun bakes the land, creating a searing environment where only the hardiest life survives. Violent sandstorms sweep across the dunes, reshaping the landscape and posing a constant threat to travelers.
Oases, scattered like precious emeralds amongst the sand, provide vital water sources and brief respites from the harshness of the wasteland. These oases are often fiercely contested territories, with tribes guarding them jealously.
Hidden within the canyons and beneath the dunes lie the skeletal remains of ancient cities, their origins shrouded in mystery. Whispers of forgotten magic and untold riches lure treasure hunters and ambitious empires, but the Jaich'iem tribes stand as the first line of defense, fiercely protecting their land and its secrets.

People

Those nomads who live out there... they're different. Hard as nails, sure, but their eyes... they've seen things. They talk about mirages that move on their own, oases that vanish when you reach them. Wouldn't be surprised if something dark and twisted lives out there, messing with your head.
Jaich'iem Nomads: Descended from a long line of wasteland survivors, the Jaich'iem people are a collection of nomadic tribes. They are tough, resourceful, and deeply connected to the harsh environment. Skilled hunters, trackers, and sand-sailers, they navigate the dangers of the wasteland with an unmatched understanding.
Guardians of the Past: Oral traditions hold the history of the Jaich'iem people and the ancient cities. They believe themselves to be the protectors of these ruins, ensuring that the forgotten knowledge and potential dangers within them remain undisturbed.

Culture

Survival and Adaptation: Life in the wasteland demands a culture focused on survival and adaptation. The Jaich'iem people have a deep respect for the power of nature and believe in living in harmony with the harsh environment.
Fierce Independence: Having carved out their existence in an unforgiving land, the Jaich'iem fiercely value their independence. They are suspicious of outsiders and fiercely defend their territory and way of life.
Spirituality of the Wasteland: The Jaich'iem believe the wasteland itself holds a powerful spirit. They revere the harsh beauty of the desert and believe the spirits of their ancestors walk the sands, guiding and protecting them.

Secrets of the Jaich'iem

Ruins and Whispers: The ancient city ruins scattered throughout the wasteland are a constant source of fascination and speculation. The Jaich'iem believe these cities hold powerful magic and forbidden knowledge, and they fiercely protect them from those who would exploit their secrets.
Heard a tale about a lost city out there. Gold buildings reaching for the sky. Supposedly cursed, guarded by spirits of pharaohs. Some foolhardy treasure hunters went searching for it years ago. Never came back. Maybe they found that city, maybe they found something worse.
Monsters of the Dunes: Legends abound of terrifying creatures that roam the wasteland – monstrous sandworms, skeletal warriors risen from the desert sands, and other fearsome beings. While some dismiss these tales as myth, the Jaich'iem take them seriously, ensuring their warriors are well-trained and prepared to defend their land and their people.

The Sharapovan Intrusion

A Cautious Alliance: The Empire of Sharapov, ever hungry for resources and power, has long been interested in the Jaich'iem Wastes. However, the harshness of the land and the fierce resistance of the Jaich'iem tribes deterred them from open conquest. Finally, a cautious agreement was reached – the Sharapovan Empire is granted limited access to the wasteland for trade, hoping to acquire some of the wasteland's legendary treasures.
A Fragile Peace: This agreement is a fragile one. The Sharapovans see the Jaich'iem as savages and their land as a resource to be exploited. The Jaich'iem, in turn, deeply distrust the empire's motives and fear they will exploit the wasteland's secrets for their own gain. Constant vigilance and the ever-present threat of violence hang heavy in the air.

The Future of the Wasteland

Will the Sharapovans keep their bargain or will their greed lead them to break the fragile peace and attempt to conquer the wasteland?
Can the Jaich'iem tribes maintain their unity and way of life in the face of an increasingly powerful outsider force?
What secrets do the ancient ruins hold, and what dangers will be unleashed if they are disturbed?
The Jaich'iem Wasteland is a land of harsh beauty, fiercely independent people, and ancient mysteries. It is a land where the past whispers on the wind and the future hangs in the balance.
They say the sands whisper secrets at night, secrets that drive men mad. Last caravan I joined, a fella started raving about a giant jeweled scarab beetle after a night lost in a sandstorm. Never saw him again after that.
