Courier Guild

Merchant

Currently the Courier’s Guild has its head office in Hollow’s Point but they have many stations situated across the length and width of the Vale, as well as some on the Northguard Plains and Southguard Plains. They typically travel from Hollow’s Point to Stonebridge regularly but have been known to go outside that route if the money is right. Dedicated to ensuring the packages or messages in their care are delivered on time and safely, the resources of the Courier’s Guild are extensive, though not without limits.

History

The Courier’s Guild was founded in Hollow’s Point many years ago, after an entrepreneurial merchant named Brinceton Fellowflax decided to employ some barbarian mercenaries to deliver messages to his customers in the north. He wanted to make sure his deliveries made it to their destination, so he hired a team of travelers and guards to ensure its success. The popularity of his team grew and soon others were asking if they could use his group. Brinceton began to hire other couriers of all skills and backgrounds to help with his operation. He expanded to include everything that had to travel from one to place to another, regardless of distance, including messages, and packages of all sizes and value. The list of destinations grew and soon he was sending them to Essillion, Meadowspring, Shalehaven, Forgehome, even as far south as Stonebridge. The importance of the reliable messenger became so ingrained in Hollow’s Point that Brinceton was able to secure a permanent charter from the city, allowing him and his employees to travel freely to all who honour the agreement. Most cities and villages along the Vale appreciate the value the couriers bring and treat them accordingly.

Current Membership

The current leader is a woman named Anastasia Proudbear, and she can trace her lineage to the founder of the guild. She upholds and maintains the standards of the Couriers and is a firm believer in their mission. She was once a very successful courier herself and has the trust and admiration of the people under her leadership. Her husband, Kalathan Proudbear, is a Goliath of slighter proportions, and still maintains his route from Hollow’s Point to Essillion regularly. He used to travel further but age has shortened his distance. However, he can still move with great speed when necessary, and prefers to walk instead of riding any mounts.   The master owl wrangler and trainer is a high elf from Aspenshield named Melianus Aleskus. His time at the Topaz Nest in Aspenshield puts him in a very favourable position to ensure his Giant Owls are well taken care of and provide the best service. He wishes he could get some more but two is all they have approved at the moment.

Goals

Anastasia is looking to raise the safety standards of the couriers, encouraging the city of Hollow’s Point to invest in equipment or extra hands. She has done a good job of maintaining the good standing of the guild with the Merchant Ward and balancing the needs of the company with the needs of the workers. However, there are some on the council that do not want to provide any more money to what they consider an already successful and self-sufficient organization.

Resources

The Courier’s Guild has a very extensive stable of mounts, most notably horses, but some ponies, goats, and even a couple giant owls. They can equip themselves with very good traveling gear, suitable for most types of weather, wagons, carts, and weapons as needed. There are not many spellcasters in the group, but the few there are do very well for themselves.
