Lutien's Collar
The northern entrance to Lutien’s Vale is called his Collar and is one of the more dangerous areas in this part of the continent. It is home to a great Fallen city and has some of the only eastern access to the sea, which is rarely used.
The Halflings are seen to rule the Vale but in reality it is shared by a good number of races. Being in between the two largest mountain ranges on Starhelm has provided a nice shelter from weather, cataclysmic events, and major political upheaval, but the Collar has its share of intrigues and danger. Farms and small villages dot the valley landscape and the prosperity of the Avonshire River has given rise to many successful settlements. Even the capital Halfling city of Meadowspring seems more like a very large village in how it is run.
The Fallen of Azdurok cause much havoc to those in the north and the alliance of Halflings, Dwarves, and Humans have allowed all three races to feel secure in their homes, for the most part. The Elves of Aspenshield seem to take on most of Azdurok’s attention but the Fallen are known in most parts of the northern vale.
Dwarves, Halflings, and Humans trade easily with each other but the great distances between the cities makes the trek long and sometimes dangerous. As such, trade fairs, and seasonal festivals are common and the location of these fairs changes from season to season, particularly between the Humans of Essillion and the Halflings of Meadowspring. Mercenaries can find plenty of work here guarding travelers and caravans of merchants to and from the north, into Meadowspring and beyond toward the Lake of Battered Helms. Gnolls, Hill Giants, and other marauders can sometimes attack farms and villages, as well as travelers so most people know how to avoid conflict or defend themselves if need be.
