Lind

Capital of the Vael and home to Queen Freawine.

Demographics

Serfs and free men comprise most of the inhabitants of Lind making up 60% of the population.   Craftsmen and merchants are approximately 20% of the population.   Riders of the Vael and the local militia guard stand at 15% of the population.   The aristocratic Marshals, their knights, and squires are roughly 5% of the inhabitants of Lind.

Government

The Lord Marshal

  The Lord Marshal is a title appointed by the Monarch of the Vael. This title once appointed becomes hereditary, passing on to the eldest child of the previous title bearer in the event of death or retirement. This title can be stripped of the bearer if they are found guilty of a crime or if they are otherwise deemed unfit for its responsibilities.   The duties of the Lord Marshal include: appointing Town Marshals, collecting taxes, conscription's in times of war, enacting royal laws, seeing to the well-being of the common folk, and acting as a representative of the Vael on diplomatic missions.  

Town Marshals

  Town marshals are a position appointed by the Lord Marshal to specific towns and duties. Once appointed it becomes a hereditary title. Town Marshals act on the behalf of the Lord Marshal within their duties.  

Justice Marshal

  The duties of the Justice Marshal are: Keep peace within the town, inform town criers in changes of law, apprehend, sentence, and try criminals.  

Trade Marshal

  The Trade Marshal oversees all merchants and craftsmen within the town. When a new craftsman or trader wishes to set shop within town they must get the Trade Marshals seal of approval before conducting business.  

Stable Marshal

  The Stable Marshal (thought to be a lower station) oversees the maintenance of the equipment and steeds of the other Town Marshals, the maintenance of town buildings, and roads often working with the Mason Marshal. In practice this means the Stable Marshal sends work crews to repair buildings, veterinarians to the horses, and assigning teams to clear the roads and streets of "apples".  

Mason Marshal

  The Mason Marshal Works on behalf the Lord Marshal to build new homes, roads, and other infrastructure. Often times the Mason Marshal will work with the Stable Marshal and confer on planning.  

Field Marshal

  The Field Marshal is an auspicious title as they are in charge of training the local Riders of the Vael. In times of war the Field Marshal acts as the Lord Marshals second-in-command and carries out orders on their behalf.
